As Mays pointed out it is going to be a case of shopping around but not to take the first lowest rate that you are offered. There are various rating systems given to insurance companies. What good is a cheap insurance that doesn't pay??? I assume you are referring to health insurance (as opposed to life insurance, car insurance, etc). You may qualify for various programs depending on your state. There may be clinical trials that can help with getting you medication and such for you diabetes. Sometimes hospitals offer rating systems for surgery and doctor costs scaled by income and need. It may sound like a research project but it will help your health and finances to look into as much as you can. As for the job front, take a deep breath. The stress can push your numbers up. You didn't ask to be without a job so don't beat yourself up. Get your face in front of as many employers as you can. It's a numbers game!
