Ok, this maybe silly but I just got my meter and I cannot get enough blood to come out. Is this a problem for just me or you too?

Thank you for this pearl of wisdom! My fingers get numb from the top knuckles to the tips and I didn't know what to do. Now I do. Went to my first education class this week, have 2 more. I was asked if I wanted to see the social worker because I have no support people here. Has anyone else done this? I guess it can't hurt to talk to someone. It's hard doing this alone, so I appreciate this site and everyone on it.

Yes, washing your hands in warm water really helps. Rub the vigerously and if you let your hands hang down for a bit before you prick, it will help too. Sometimes I find that my needle is not set deep enough, espeically for one of my fingers that is blessed with a writing callous.

Also, where you prick can effect the outcome. I try to be closer to the finger tip, using the sides of my fingers. If I get too close to my joint, I find poor results.
Some fingers do better than others, my pinkies do really well as do my thumbs. My index fingers don't do so well. But that is trial and error.
Do a little streching or a quick jaunt around the house. This gets the blood pumping in your body too, and that seems to help me.
Being hydrated as mentioned is key also. You want a red blood, not a dark blood. If it is dark, you need to be drinking more water.
