Okay I have a question and this is very embarrasing for me to ask. Why is it that if I eat salty foods or use salt I urinate alot. I mean it makes me go constantly. And I have to go so bad suddenly that I barely make it. Is that associated with diabetes or am I possibly looking at a qhole other problem?

To get back on topic, despite some delightful humor, salt, and sodium in general, cause the body to retain fluids, especially water. You'll probably notice some swelling, especially in the feet and legs along with weight gain associated with the added fluid in your body. Eventually the body, particurlary the kidneys, will decide 'enough is enough' and eliminate a lot of this fluid. This is not recommended; it's rough on the body, especially the kidneys. The best idea is to limit salt and sodium intake. If you really must have salty food, look into salt substitutes. They're relatively expensive but much better for your body. Most are essentially potassium chloride, a substance frequently prescribed as a suppliment anyway. By all means, check with your doctor.

Do you test your blood sugar? Your body will try and eliminate the blood sugar threw your urine if it gets above 220. Should also make you thirsty. This is one of the signs of being diabetic with poor control.

If your doctor didn’t tell you to test maybe you should do it on your own. The doctors told me I didn’t need to test but I decided on my own and bought a cheap meter at Wal-Mart for $9.00 and a box of 50 strips for $20.00.

I called my insurance company and they forwarded me to Liberty Medical and Liberty Medical got the doctor to prescribe the testing supplies. I have been testing 6+ times a day ever since. I figure if it wasn’t for testing the foods I ate I would still be on meds with uncontrolled blood sugar pissing sugar like I did before being diagnosed.

Have you been losing weight lately and can’t figure out why. I did, I was pissing the glucose down the toilet. Lots 50 lbs before I new what was happening.

European??? (your a peein'?) … sorry, lost my head … I haven't noticed a difference with salty versus unsalty foods but I do know that I spend a lot of time getting rid of the water that I drink alot of. Prior to my diagnosis I was set for hours and now it seems like every hour I am in the men's room. I don't know if it's the same for ladies. Disclaimer: whatever you learn from us, don't take our diagnosis. We are no substitute for medical attention. Also, objects in mirror are closer than they appear; and some assembly required.

sorry to get off topic here but you mentioned my humor. I have an excuse. I am middle aged. When my Dad was middle aged and said sh** like I do, I thought he was a moron. Now, I am seeing that it can happen to anyone and not necessarily hereditary.
When I worked retail, I found that the strangest people were also the middle aged. The younger set is too "cool" to say what they think and the elderly usually forget what they've said so… middle age lets us get away will all kinds of things. We resume this topic to Qmissy2000's discussion and I apologize for the interruption. Oh, and Missy there is no need to feel embarrassed about any questions on here. That goes back to the fact that you are not middle aged.

Somehow I believe you could entertain people with laughter for hours. Its a wonderful trait to have. Feel free to change the subject anytime to make me laugh. This afternoon has taken a not so good turn for me and I need a reason to smile and/or laugh. :'(

I'm sorry… I was in the men's room. What were we talking about? … Oh, oh, yeah. I remember. I can't really give any insight on any kinds of meds because until I got old enough for blood pressure and cholesterol meds, my experience with drugs date back to the 70s. How outdated is that info? And the drugs had nothing to do with diabetes. :)

I was never too cool to say what I think. But it did cause problems with my "inapropriately timed sense of humor." Now in the middle ages you have given me an excuse to continue. Thanks.
