In my profile I posted a few paintings and drawings; this is what I do to take my mind off many matters and be creative at the same time.

So what do ya'll do; what are your hobbies that help you cope with life?

I am excited to learn about special skills or talents we have here on DC!

It seems that every time i develop a hobby, it turns into a job. Several years ago, my brother taught me to play electric bass guitar. I spent the next several years playing all over the midwest in country/western bands. That budding career was only cut short by a stroke that inhibited my left hand. Then, I developed a habit of telling myself 'bedtime stories' to get to sleep. Those stories grew into a series of science fiction books that are now for sale on Amazon.com. I almost hate to start something else.

Why? It seems that what you start turns into great success. Why would you want to stop that? Most of us would love to have a hobby make money for us. I know I am blessed in that I do artistic renderings of buildings and often joke to say that I get paid to color.

I've made a little from a few of my hobbies, but never managed to turn any into a career. It is nice when you can get doouble the pleasure from a hobby. Whenever I can make a little more than the hobby costs it's a bonus. My beadwork bought a couple of looms. The weaving furnishes Christmas presents to my extended family.

What wonderful work.
Until this year, when I got lost in the maze leading to the big hamster wheel, I did beaded jewelry and Christmas ornaments. Last year I learned I can photograph bees, it made for an amazing Summer and early Fall. I am almost as good as my husband. This Spring we spent some time lost in the Crab Apple blossoms outside my Dr's office. We need to go bee hunting again this year. I'll try to add some of my favorites to my profile.
I also dabble -
I write a little poetry. Been working on a monthly devotional off and on for years. Was making a little more progress last Fall and Winter. Just starting to be able to string a few thoughts together. Want to get back to working on my idea for a caregiver recipe blog.
I try to draw. Usually I just end up with a very nice collection of colored pencils and a full waste basket. Every once in a while I have a keeper.

Yes please, I would love to see your photos of bees. That takes special talent. Getting that up close and personal is a challenge. I used to have a macro lens on my 35mm, but now I just have zoom on my digital. Bummer.

Beautiful work, We all have some kind of talent to keep our minds off of our illnesses- mine is working with my hands - love to refinish funiture. I can redo something three or four times before I'm happy with the finish, but it keeps my mind on something better. I love to swim when I can, getting a little harder since I have COPD - Keep up the great work, loved it.

Nancy …Wow I love your work! Thank you for sharing them! I have been training for a marathon, And when I'm not busy with my family, I also make historical, theatrical costumes. I play piano and guitar. I forage the wild for edibles and love cooking since being diagnosed the direction has changed a bit and I am focusing on low glycemic foods and creating recipes for them.

My Dad taught me some about wild edibles. I planted a few native variaties in my yard, that way I didn't have to forage as far. We had alpine currents, chokecherries, wild straw berries, bunching onions and kinnikinik.

Excellent post and most excellent art work!!!

I have a lot of things that keep me busy. I enjoy reading and writing and research. I am into personal finance. I love messaging and emailing friends. I love messing with computers. I love making people (including myself) laugh. I am getting into exercise, cooking, nutrition, and dieting. I provide alot of care to my lovely wife with her medical issues, surgeries and concerns. I would like to get my cat a job as a spokes purrson for a water company so I can retire. I work two jobs (sometimes three) and when not sleeping or drunk, I am here sharing my insane ramblings with my friends. And more recently I am trying to quit smoking. Full life???

Your drawings are fantastic!! l play the guitar. I've always loved music as far back as I can remember… I am currently working on a novel. I want to learn how to draw someday, also.

Oh how BEAUTIFUL! Your drawings and paintings are wonderful. I love how you capture the people you do. I also draw and write. I love to do that. I have been modestly published online and in print and I am blessed to be able to spend some of my working hours, shall I say, coloring with markers! LOL. It is an element that I find great joy in as well. I also like to take photos, though I miss my 35mm camera now that everything is digital.

Gabby, one of my favorite pieces was done in magic markers! It was featured a few years ago on the American Pain Foundation. Yeah regular cameras were da Bomb!

congratulations! It is so cool when you see your work on a cover or in a book. I remember the first time I got paid to do artwork. I was amazed that people wanted to pay me to draw! LOL
