I can understand the idea behind wanting people to eat healthy and be cautious of overdoing anything. My concern is, why is eating junk food and processed foods that cause cravings, depression, diabetes, cancer, and other issues not categorized by the FDA as a disorder? Why is eating raw and natural foods considered by the mainstream to be outrageous? Seems like they want to keep us on medicines to mask the symptoms not get rid of the disease. Thought?

The problem is that none of those types of food have been proven to cause any health problems. Associated to, but not a cause. If you start negatively categorizing things that are not shown to a point where it is costing people their livelihoods then the problems start.

Orthorexia Nervosa is not the same as just eating raw and natural foods, it's taking that eating to excess so the person doesn't get proper nutrition and ends up harming themselves. The other issue is that for a great number of chronic conditions that people claim a raw/natural food diet cures the diet only mask the symptoms just like drugs do. The underlying disease is still there but the patient may be symptom free. I often see it claimed that somebody can cure or reverse diabetes with a raw food diet or whatever it may be and basing that claim on the person having normal blood sugar. Normal blood sugar can be relatively easy to achieve for some by only eating processed foods in the right amounts but with both diets as soon as you stop the symptoms will come back.

so eating processed foods and chemicals and genetically altered grains hasn't been proven to cause illness? i find that hard to believe. these types of foods are addicting. addiction is an illness, isn't it? i agree that healthy eating along with anything else can be taken to an extreme. i disagree with the idea that raw/natural foods mask symptoms like drugs do. food is not a drug. food is a sustaining way of life. a drug is not natural, it's mostly man made, in a lab. if you can control diabetes with raw/natural foods, why would you want to take drugs to just keep the symptoms at bay when just eating good pure food will do the same thing?

If you can find any study that proves certain foods cause disease or are addictive then let me know, I haven't seen one yet. Opinions and theories are very different that facts. I also don't disagree that food should be the foundation of diabetes care but its just a control tool, it won't cure or reverse it.
