Want to introduce myself, my name is Sheri and I have been a type 1 diabetic since 1996 when I was 29. Ive had a lot of problems with being a diabetic dont know if its because I was in denial or what but I am just now getting super serious about taking care of myself! Why now you ask? Because back in April I weas sick with the flu and was not taking all the insulin I was supposed to take(felt super bad) and I ended up in the Hospital in a Coma~ was ther in ICU for 2 days before I woke up( I could hear my husband and the nurses but couldn't open my eyes) then anothe 4 days in a step down unit! The thing is I could have died…
I have a 23 year old daughter a 20 year old son and a 6 year old son, and I cant leave them just because I am in denail or ignorant about my health! So I am doing everything I can to stay with my Family and do my BEST to be there for them! The hard thing is, I dont have Insurance and all the stuff I take for diabetes takes away from my Family! All then medicine I take I buy from Wal-Mart …my doctor would like me on Lantus but I cant afford $75 a bottle…anyways I could use any and all advice you all might have! Thanks for reading my book LOL :)

I would advise you to go to your local welfare assistance office and apply for medicaid. If anything, you can apply only for yourself and should be able to recieve benefits. I did it and even with what my husband made They told me my child was eligable. I had to pay a monthly premium (only 30 a month) and they covered hospitalization and everything but a small co pay on all of her meds (Including her Lantis, Humalog, strips, lancets, etc…). Give it a shot. It is well worth trying for! Take care of you.

Hi and Welcome to DC!! I am so glad to hear that you are ready to be serious about your health. I am proud of you for that. Some people never get to the point of taking diabetes seriously. I am sorry that you almost died. I can see that you are determined to live and to take care of yourself. You are in my prayers. Take care.
