Getting Involved

I have a thought, and do not know who to send it to, so, I figured this would be a good spot. I would love to become involved in some way with diabetes, other than having it! Does this group have a spot for organizations that deal with diabetes. I am looking and talking about a place to go for action. Think: relay for life for cancer. Is there a relay for life for diabetics? Do not get me wrong: I love going to sites like this to help others, but, I also would like to become active physically. To get out there and help people. Hope this makes sense. I think, and I do not mean to be rude, or out of line here, but would it be possible for this site to have a place to list things like this so people can get more involved.

Your idea of an event calendar sounds good. Why don't you drop a note to John Crowley and see if anything like that is in the works. I think it's brilliant.

There is a site called "" what is really nice about the site is you can check by your city ,zip code and find active groups in your area on any subject. You can even start your own. I actually found my beagle meet-up group with this site, local folks who get together every week to walk our beagles and allow them time to play. I found several diabetic walkers groups but none for my area so am considering starting one on my own. Worth a look. :)

The ADA does a couple of events. Tour de cure is a cycling even, usually on the summer. Step out is a walking event, usually in the fall. The JDRF does a walk as well. Local organizations do things as well, mine has a SCUBA for diabetes and swim for diabetes. If you go to and you can look for the local walks and cycling events. All the associations all do other things that need volunteers throughout the year as well. If you live in or near a city that has an ADA expo you can help out there as well.
