I am calling this post "Money Matters" because in these days money really DOES matter and the more you can get for your money, the better.

I thought I would take a slight detour from talking about diabetes to discuss some money saving sites that I have learned about couponing.

First of all, my spell check doesn’t like the word “couponing” but I know it’s a word. I think it's both a noun and a verb.

When I worked at Walgreens, I would have customers come into the store holding fist fulls of coupons and ringing out a cart full of sale items and they’d end up paying me a few bucks and getting back even more in register rewards. Now I just had to get more information on that.

Here, it turns out that there are websites like for Walgreens sales, for a competitor… you get the idea.

There’s also and that you may want to check out.

I also found an informative site at

I thought that I would share these sites with you and see if you have any similar sites to share with me and others.

I will eventually post part II, part III, etc. if you have interest in this kind of "off topic" but related informational kind of discussion thread.

Solid advice from all. Thank you for the websites'. Paying for diabetic supplies and medicines can get expensive. We already pay a premium surtax for suger free, low-sodium, and low-carb items, so any coupon aligned with such items will help. I like this site for the shared advice on many areas of health via personal stories filled with information and life experiences.
Thanks Ray for starting this thread.

Love this. I will have to go look up my sites and post. is a great website to go to for frugal savings in all areas. They offer a freebie side and for those that want the entire thing, they offer a membership side.

Thanks for the referral. I will add that to my "to do" list. Definately share with us these kinds of sites. In my next "issue" I will be presenting some shopping assistant sites that can help consumers check price and availability on various products. For example wife and I got a $100+ paper shredder for $29… same shredder different merchant. Cool eh??? In fact we are getting a $40 mail rebate from it. I am down with that.

Thanks for the info Ray! We could all stand to save money. One other thing I have done in the past is to call around to different pharmacies to have them quote pricing. There can be HUGE differences between them.

RAYT721 2010-06-29 16:29:14 -0500 Report

I totally agree! I find some local pharmacies that offer certain meds at $3.99/month which is far more affordable than the standard mail order service through our insurance plan (copays). We usually check among them and sometimes pharmacies offer gift cards for transferring prescriptions, etc. I am planning such a review in my future posting of "Money Matters" so stay tuned.

Another website is You can get free trial sizes and sometimes full size product samples like shampoo, cereal, heat patches, deodorant. I recently just received a full size neti pot with solution. This is for rinsing the sinuses. I think they retail in the stores for over $10.00.

I have been using coupons since I was in my early 20's. That was over 30 years ago. I love the register rewards at Walgreens and the Easy Bucks at CVS. There is a site called . It lists which coupons are in which flyer by date. If you need more coupons for your Walgreens deals try . is one of my favorite sites. She lists lots of freebies and has giveaways too. Giveaways can be books, movie tickets, gift cards. I have lots of other money saving sites too that I will list later.

Thanks Petals … This could turn into a truly profitable post for us all. And I just want to mention that sometimes I search the manufacturer's websites directly for favorite brands. TIP: Instead of just using or for a search engine, I use The reason I like dogpile is that it automatically looks at all of the main search engines at the same time.

Petals… I am also on northeastohiocouponers. I didn't know you're in Ohio (or are you?) … This is such a small world. I'm in North Royalton, a Cleveland suburb. I've heard it said there a two types of people in the world… those in Ohio and those who wish they were. :)

petals 2010-06-27 11:37:04 -0500 Report

No. I'm not from Ohio , I am from Kentucky. I saw this in one magazines and I thought that I would post it here for other people to use as well. Do you have to be from Ohio to use this site? I haven't been on there yet. I have always wanted to go to Ohio though.

My wife does the couponing, She uses the CVS because it's closer to us than Walgreens but she does go there too. She now shops at several different places to get everything and saves a ton of money! She has some other web sites she vistis and I will post you some links to them later.

Keep em coming, Thomas! There are so many sites out there. We can all stand to save money on our foods, medical needs, health and beauty, etc. I have always been impressed by the customers who can bag the savings, pardon the pun.

Number crunching, belt tightening and coupon clipping,
all are necessary considering todays economy.
Every little bit helps !

If I am allowed to post a Part II and III, I have infomation on comparison price shopping sites and also sites for getting promo codes for discounts, free shipping, etc. I'd sure appreciate everyone's input.

monkeymama 2010-06-25 22:22:28 -0500 Report

LOL…I do believe money does matter when it comes to our economy today AND when a lot of us are strapped for money to pay for things we need for our diabetes. Money does matter when you are a low income and maybe even a one income family fighting to survive and the insurance companies are being pains in the butt. If we could learn to save and look at money in a different and a better way to help us cope. WONDERFUL idea to post something like this. We could all leanr a lot from something like this :)

Thanks for the feedback. What I like about the sites that I'm linking above is how the members will help others find a specific sale product, advise what issue of the Sunday paper circular has a coupon, and whatever deals they can pair or triple to get products either free or for very low cost. Some members actually buy and donate the products they cannot use to shelters and other organizations to write off tax donations for the original (value) prices rather than the after-coupon values. This is especially nice for products like food, diapers and personal care items. I have a free glucose meter that I received when buying test strips from a certain drug store. If I find someone in need I have it for them or just to hold onto for a backup.
