Do you have a favorite Glucose Meter? How did you choose the one you have?

I got mine for free and have seen others advertised but was wondering if they are really that different.

Thanks everyone. I have the One Touch Ultra (not the 2 or smart). I will go and take a look at things and see. I like the idea of being able to upload the readings and send them to the doctors.

I have 4 meters all were given to me at one time or another.
The Free style Freedom is my favorite. I also have one by
Reli-on, one by Bayer and an advantage. I keep one in each place I might need one so I don't have to carry one from place to place.

Go to this web site - www.OneTouchDiabetes.com - they will send you a free meter and 10 test strips. It says these are the strips most insurance pays for too. It's worth a try. I've been using Freestyle lite and think I'm getting high readings so thought I'd try a new one.

I tried a couple of different meters. I found I liked the One Touch Ultra Smart. It did everything I was hoping it to do plus more. I remained with the same company and was thrilled when they teamed up with my insulin pump company to use the virtually the same glucose meter but links up to my pump. Which trumped the extra features i was going to lose. Picking a meter just depends on what you want and need it to do for you.

Really mot meters are pretty similar in terms of blood sugars but the features are the deciding point. I like the OneTouch Ultra2 and Smart because they have the best features I've found for tagging readings. I use the smart because you can get a lot of data from it and track a lot of things right on the meter with nothing additional to do.

For a lot of people it depends on insurance and what brand the insurance covers. Most doctors offices have the ability to download every brand of meter so it really comes down to what features you want and if they are covered by insurance/you can afford enough strips.

I use Brezze 2 ten strips on a wheel, use all ten and throw the wheel away. Since I am in study I could test my glucose ten or more times in one day

I like the Brezze as well but the ins comp will not pay for them

that is sad, because most likely they will not pay for the strips either. The basic meter cost 17.83 at Walmart. Try and see if your ins comp will pay for the strips.
