Does anyone know if Gabapentin is a good choice to use for pain in the legs due to a loss of circulation? I have found out that, thanks to diabetes, I have now lost over 40% circulation in my right leg. On top of this, I have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy in both legs and feet. My doctor prescribed Gabapentin to ease the nerves, but I have never taken it before. Therefore, like I have done before, I turn to you, my friends, for advice and insight. I do not know what I face in the future with these conditions added to the ever present threat that diabetes poses, but I will fight on none the less, I refuse to give up or give in.

I have been taking Gabapentin for about 4 years now. As long as I use it reguarly, it has decreased my pain quite a bit. Everybody is different, though, and not everybody responds the same. I also find that if I take 2 capsules 2 hours before bedtime, I fall asleep faster, as long as I try to keep my mind clear. I take 200mg 2 times a day. My son has neuropathy really bad. He takes a total of 800mg daily and finds that he is not as responsive as I am, like I said, everyone is different. I have not been noticing any side effects, in my case… unless not having to shave my legs for the last two years is considered a side effect!lol.

Thanks for the response Ston! As I said, I have recently received this prescription. They have me taking one pill once a day for a week, then two a day for another week, then finally 3 pills a day and I am supposed to stay at that amount from then on. I will try taking it before bed and see if it helps any more than it has been. As for the leg shaving side effect, I guess that would depend on the person. It may be good for you, but I would look really funny with no hair on my legs, lol. Have a wonderful day!

I found some information on http://www.drugs.com/cdi/gabapentin-capsules.html about it. It is used for the nerve pain, but there are some cautions on it. So read them and see if you are comfortable with it. Also, when it comes to medications, don't forget the resource of your pharmacist. I am always asking mine all kinds of questions. They are a wealth of information.

Thanks for the website and info Gabby! You always come through! :-) I have to drop off some more prescriptions tomorrow, I will get with the pharmacist about this mediation and see what he can tell me. Thanks again!
