Will diabetics (or anyone) have to resort to this, or something much more severe for medical care and help ?

A Michigan woman who's unemployed and doesn't have health insurance says she shot herself in an effort to get treatment for a painful shoulder injury. (June 15)

I saw that on CNN, and it really ticked me off! It's a shame that she had to that to herself just to get medical care! Something needs to be done about this, and ASAP!!

Many, many years ago I used to be a Correction Officer in a women's prison. There were women there who made sure they committed crimes that would land them in the state prison so they would get the medical care they needed. Some needed surgeries and others needed medications for HIV. None of them had insurance nor could they afford proper care on their own. While this woman clearly took a different approach, it shows the same desperation as those women in the prison. No one should have to resort to shooting themselves or committing a felony just to get proper medical care.

Wow, this may sound insensitive of me but is she going to shoot herself in the lungs for her smoking habit or in the head for her mental illness next? I feel bad for anyone who doesn't have health insurance, but I don't have a lot of money either sometimes to the point of being desperate, doesn't mean people should feel sorry for me if I decided to rob a bank. There is help out there and if she can afford a smoking habit then she can afford some insurance.

I agree about the cigarettes and smoking habit,
