Anyone know about Januvia?
I just began taking Januvia in addition to my Metformin. My doctor put me on it since I've been sick and my sugars have been all over the place. It is very expensive though and I wonder if there is a cheaper alternative.

My Dr just put me on Januvia in addition to my metformin as well. Now I am nervous because of the cost. I do have health insurance, but that is why I quit Actos, because of the expense.
I took JANUVIA for 3 years, after that my blood sugar got worse and had to get on insulin. I beleive its good for awhile, then you have to switch.
There is no direct alternative to Januvia that is cheaper, there are other medications that are cheaper though. Things like glyburide, glipizide and glimepiride are very cheap and can be quite effective. Starlix and Prandin are more expensive but can be quite good at controlling meal time blood sugars.
Januvia also has an unknown safety profile, I personally wouldn't take it until the safety can be proven long term.
