I take only one of these meds (Prilosec) but it has been a life saver for me. In 1993 I had a brain stem stroke that completely paralyzed my throat. I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. With an empty stomach the acid went crazy! I was put on Prevacid to block the acid. If I don't take the med in a day or two I'll wake-up with bile running out of my nose and throat. But taking prevacid was about $150 a month with insurance. Now, I love spicy food, chilies and jalapenoes before the stroke. Having this med enables me to eat those things without a problem that most people have. Finally a pharmacist told me to take prilosec for reducing the cost. Made the switch and haven't missed a pill.

I was aware of most of these but the Prilosec, Nexium and Visine were a surprise to me. You have to wonder how doctors can prescribe these things with a clear conscience.

Thanks Emma for the info. I have taken one of them in the past, thank God that I am still here!

I am thankful to know this. My husband was on Vioxx and the other anti-flamatory drug they just pulled. I am so thankful we got him off of it when we did. Along with this fact, I have two special needs children with potentially life threatening disease and another child with other medical issues. That helped me greatly, because I am in nursing school and are pondering the idea if I want to study further to get my Physicians Assistant Degree. Wow!!!
