Just had my checkup with doctor. My A1c just went up a point (5.7). I mentioned (cautiously) that I was taking the supplement Berberine. Explained that I had read about it on this site. She immediately went on line to check on what it was. She was pleasantly surprised at the results of a “study” that was done and even printed out a portion of the write up. Whew! Glad that went well.

Update. I went for a blood test yesterday… and I am happy to report that my A1c went down to 5.9 - after just a little less than 3 month taking Berberine
I am jumping with joy!!!
I think it is reasonable to say that I am managing that health issue, without meds.

Hi there,
I've changed my diet to Low carb a long time ago and that was a great help. I have been able to avoid taking medication all together. I started taking Berberine on April 1st this year (that's not an April fool's joke ;) and I see my fasting blood sugar improve a lot. My last A1c was at 6.2 (from 7.4 2 years ago - that, after changing eating habits). I am looking forward to my next one in about 1 month.
Something else that I have noticed, since I am taking that supplement, I haven't any trouble sleeping - I wonder if that is one of the positive side effect?
Good health to all

There is lots of information on Berberine. I take a supplement that has Berberine, Chromium and Cinnamon each at the maximum safe level for over 2 years now. I'm only taking Metformin (500MG ER) once daily now and have move to a LCHF lifestyle of eating and have lost 15 lbs. in the last 6 month. One of the keys to controlling diabetes is to move to a Low carb life style of eating. Oh, my A1C has been falling as well. My A1C stayed around 6.8-7.0 until I switched to the LCHF. My last A1C 2 months ago was 6.1. I tried Berberine alone at first and it did nothing. When I switched to the combination I mentioned above, that changed things.

found this in dictionary: a bitter crystalline yellow alkaloid obtained from the roots of various plants such as barberry and used in medicine esp. for its antimicrobial properties.
