Since your body can't use the glucose as fuel due to lack of insulin or insulin sensitivity, and can't get the glucose into the cells that need it, your body has to get the energy from somewhere else, usually your muscles or fat tissue. At the same time you're probably peeing out the glucose that your body normally uses for energy which in turn makes you thirsty and the cycle repeats until your BS is under control. Get hungry, eat, BS goes up, can't use the glucose, piss, get the energy from someplace else(though inefficiently, which is why you may get really tired), get thirsty to replace he piss…etc. Well, that's what I was told during a diabetes class. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please. I don't want to go around spreading false information. The chinese word for it is something to do with wasting and thirsting meaning you body is wasting away.

Remembering times of high blood sugar, does not bring to mind weight loss for me. I always put the pounds on during this time. How high was your sugar count that made you lose?

Hi Avera,
My b/s was will over 400 at the time, I had no energy and was sleeping all the time as well. I was drinking about a gallon of water a day. I thought at the time that it was great I was losing weight, but not really feeling all that great. Ryan you are right, I was told that by my Dr as well. I had no idea that diabetes ran on my side of the family, found that out just a few years ago. Long story. It's good to know your family history as diabetes rans on my father's side and I didn't even know it until i had it. Had I, I might have been able help my self. Have a good week. Lanore : )

Hi Termar,
One reason is because yuor body is burning the fat to use as energy, because your bs is high. This happened to me before the Dr find out I was diabetic, lost almost 50 lbs, Great but it all came back as I got control of my bs.
