I got my shipment of test strips today, so now I have plenty to do proper testing … and not just one a day to stretch out the 10 freebies I had with my OneTouch Ultra Mini.

After not eating for 11 hours, about 30 minutes after getting up today, my reading was 203. Not good.

On a bright note, my change in diet since Monday has brought about a 4 lb weight loss. I know it's a bit much, but it's probably water weight and such. I was already starting to lose a few lbs last week.

Ok, that was my morning announcements - you can resume your daily activities =)

If you went 11 hours between eating, it could still be high because your body made your liver spill sugar due to it going too low. I have this problem at times. I have to make sure I don't go too long between (even over night).

I feel ya. It took about 3 months for me to get down low as you say. I still have elevated morning sugar. 6 months into it, I stopped sugar, gluten, and dairy. I use almond milk and coconut oil and yogurt. It really is all about good meats, vegetables and fresh fruits. I use frozen but rarely anything canned, except kidney beans, etc. It was a long 3 weeks, but with also drinking half my body weight of water and green teas (I like the mint and chamomille add-ons) and eating raw nuts for snack, I got into a sensible place. Now I have to work on an intestinal opportunistic disease which responds best to probiotics and pickeled foods such as saurkraut, relish, peppers, pickles of course. Stopping this disease and healing my intestinal tract will allow me to utilize my nutrition. Now it is passing through straight into the blood. I was told 2 years ago I had fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Guess what? The symptoms are the same on this. Lord please let this give me energy! and solve my glucose control issues!

Go to the website truehealth.com and check out the supplements they have. You can find supplements for any health issue you can imagine. Let me know what you think.

Have you tried taking diatomecous earth as a health supplement? It's supposed to be great at helping with intestinal health and it adds to your energy, help loads of things for diabetes and other body functions. It's normally fed to animals but those of us human who have braved the whole eating dirt life have experienced great results too.

I've got more energy, my blood pressure is getting lower as well as my cholesterol and my joints don't ache as badly as they did before from old injuries.

It's really cheap compared to other dietary supplements a ten pound bad will last one person about a year and it sells for about $25 US. I bought it to help my cat and her flea issue but I learned it will help lower cholesterol and help diabetes as well as help to clear up kidney stones which my poor fiance is plagued with so now we take it every day. He takes three tablespoons and I take two.

It's got no taste so you only have to worry about the grittiness I hide my morning dose in a bottle of flavored water and my second in a healthy banana shake. I feel the grit in the water but in the shake you don't really notice it. But hey I've put a lot worse tasting stuff in my mouth for the sake of being healthy. It's certainly better than cough syrup, lol.

And hey, if you just can't choke it down it's good for animals and pest control. I won't lie we go through a lot because I feed some to the cat and both humans eat it and then I use a bit around the house to keep away ants, flys, fleas and whatever other creepy crawlies might want in but in the long run it's still cheaper than buying bug sprays and medicines and dietary supplements that are supposed to do the same thing.

The only warning it's got is to try not to breath it in or get any in your eyes because it can cause irritation, it's mostly silica so it's also basically hypo allergenic.

I have read about it. I'm kinda waiting til I complete my strict instruction level and GET in balance before I branch into experimenting with products out there. Thanks for the input for the animals and fleas. I should do it for them if none other.

My doctor said that it is dangerous to go so many hours without eating.
Sometimes when we don't eat for long periods of time B/S can still rise, because the body releases glucose to give us energy that we are denying it. The body in a sense is eating it self. Test right before going to bed as well as upon waking up to see if you are a night time B/S riser. Some people are.
Another serious side of not eating for long periods of time can be unsafe drops in B/S leading to diabetic coma or even death.
My doctors recommendation is to eat every 2 to 3 hours, light healthy snacking between meals. Sleep 6 to 8 hours and eat breakfast soon after rising. Also not to exercise on an empty stomach as this to can cause unsafe B/S drops.
One more thought a sudden drop in B/S from high to what is considered normal range can still cause reactions in some people.
Good luck in learning what combination of diet, exercise, and if needed medications work for you.
May God Bless you.

A big thank you to each of your for your words of encouragement and support. 3 hours after eating dinner I had a 272, and most of my dinner was veggies. I might have to buy stock in beano if I have to become a vegetarian! LOL =)

Test away. That is how we learn so much about what is going on inside. And to me, any weight loss is good weight loss. Well, okay, not really..but if it gives you inspiration to keep on going, then it's good. It will slow down but keep it steady and anything that goes down is a great accomplishment.

Yes, I did go online and printed out charts from OneTouch and other places to log when I eat, my carbs and calories, and my readings before and 2 hrs after eating.

Ugh! After eating my 55g carb brunch (was up late and had to vote in a run off race for our state's Senate race), my bs reading was 285, and that was 2.5 hrs after eating. UGH UGH UGH! If a trend like that continues, I may have to go on some form of meds. Just as long as no needles are involved, I'll be alright with that, but still.

Btw: Do you test the 2 hrs after snacks also, or just after the 3 main meals? Depending on how one does their testing, they can use 5-10 strips a DAY! Is that normal?

Hi, Barb
Yeah, I would say that's normal, especially the 10 when you're trying to find a way out of the maze. Don't worry about it. Just find out what works for you and go with it. Losing weight at any time is great, isn't it?

Thanks!!! So true about losing too fast. Like Harlen said, it may very well taper off here in a few weeks … those pain-in-the-arse plateaus! =)

My strips at walmart are 53.00, so I went to amazon and found them 20.00 cheaper. I haven't heard of side kick. Might look in to it. I am happy with one touch ultra mini. But it never hurts to check out something else. Thanks.
