Help!!! I've been thinking well i want to start staying places with my friends. So my mom said I can either 1. learn to draw insulin (which I'm going to learn anyway eventually.) or 2. Get the insulin pump. i really dont know what to choose and i need to decide soon. because it takes awhile to learn to draw insulin and classes for the insulin pump and my BFF's sleepover is in July. If you have any recommendations please post.

Hello there! I went on the injections while I was waiting for my insulin pump. Which for some insurance companies take at least 3 months. It has been completely well worth my decision to go on the insulin pump. Just because you are on a insulin pump. You still need to learn how to inject insulin. There may come a time when when your pump may not be working right. You will than go to manual insulin at that point till your replacement would come in. There is so much good about being on a pump. I love it for these reasons: it allows me tighter control, flexibility of normalcy, decrease chances of lows, and I have children (bust life style). In your question, I would do both learning the injections while waiting for a insulin pump.

I personally LOVE the flexpen, you can dail up the units and inject yourself with it… It comes in a bright yellow… Usually…

You should do both since there are situations where pump users need to use a syringe, usually emergency situations. If you can, get a pump. It may take a while but I think it's worth it. You should be able to learn how to count carbs and use insulin safely in a couple of hours, especially if you see a certified diabetes educator. The pump will take longer because there are a lot of steps you have to go through to get one and learn how to use it. If you start that now, you may not have it by July.
