As Gabby says, you really have to consult with your doctor on this. Among other things, it can depend on the type of insulin and other meds you are taking. When I have a very high test, I often split the dose with 30 minutes in between just to play it safe.

I would agree with kdroberts & Harlen here. It all depends on the individuals needs and how they are using their insulin. Whether you are using a pump or injection it is going to differ. There isn't going to be any two days alike either for an individuals insulin intake as well.

Theoretically, an unlimited amount. I know of people who take several hundred units per day of lantus and then a whole a 1:1 insulin to carb ratio with meals. That adds up to be a massive amount in a day. Just depends on what your needs are. I think there is a limit where it can be bad for you but I don't think it is a set amount or has really been researched. It likely is way more than anyone could take without causing themselves major problems due to low blood sugar though.

You need to ask your doctor about dosing your insulin. Too much can happen very fast and could have horrible consequences. You don't want to create a low that you cannot come out of, so be very careful. Call your doctor or a diabetes nutritionist to get guidance on that.
