Hi Jackie! Great to have you here. This is one of the best communities I have found to help with diabetes. I hope that you find the friendship and support that you need here. There are a lot of great folks!

Hi Jackie! You have found a great support system here by joining. I was diagnosed April of this year, so am fairly new myself. I suggest you read as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask any questions, even if it sounds stupid. Knowledge is power. Take care, Cindy

Hi, Jackie. Welcome to DC. Jump right in and get acquainted. I'm fairly new myself, but love it here. How long have you had Type II and how are you doing with it?

I was diagnosed in 2003. I'm doing pretty well now, but in the beginning it was terrible. I just sort of crawled up inside myself and ignored it. But when I began learning what I was doing to myself by ignoring it, I stopped and got with the program.

My grandmother had glaucoma, I think, so I'm not certain whether she had diabetes or not, but I've got glaucoma now. The prognosis is good, though, and the treatment that they have today is marvelous. It's laser-based. I've got a great doctor, too. Next month he's going to take the cataracts out and give me new lenses. So, I'll be able to see distances now without any glasses at all. I'll just need glasses to read. That's going to be cool because I've worn glasses ever since 6th Grade. I'm excited, believe me.
