I am having a problem, I am so low income that finding a meter to use is harder then using it, my insurance will only cover 1 meter period, ever. that meter was the Accu-Chek Aviva meter. They cover the strips that work for it, and no other strips, so i am stuck with this machine, so i am looking for a free meter, or a place that offers these meters for free, since my meter is on its last leg where almost every time i start it, i get the ERR message and have to remove the battery to get it to restart, i can't even afford to get the batter changed, and found it might be more then the battery..

anyone with advice, help, info, something??

David… I have a coupon here for a free Accu-Check Aviva meter that I can pop in the mail to you if you still need one. You will need a prescription for it but it will be free. Don't post your address here but send me a message if you're interested. /rayt

Have you asked the maker of your meter? I use Accu-Chek Aviva also and really like it. Last month I had a problem with it and called the number on the back of my meter. I'm sure they'll help you. They've helped me in the past. But if they can't, then maybe they can direct you to someone who can. You've got nothing to lose by asking. Good luck.

Emma2412 2010-05-18 12:45:06 -0500 Report is a site which advertises free meters. Check it out. I would have your insurance info ready since that's probably going to be required.

It is my hubby thats Diabetic. I enjoy this site very much and find it extremely helpful, and so good to know that youre not alone with this medical problem. About the meter, we live in Canada (Toronto) and if he buys test strips he is able to get a new meter. I dont know what it is like in the US.
Goodnight everyone and keep up the good work.

Most likely the battery, that has happened to mine as well. How long have you had the meter and did you register it with Accu-chek? If you call them they would be able to help you, if it is still under warranty. Most insurance companies, if the doctor prescribes for you to get a new meter they will pay for it.

Call the number on the back and tell them about the error, they will likely send you a free one and some strips. Alternatively, ask your doctor for a sample one.
