What I mean is, if the glucose level is kept at normal levels for a while, does it hurt to go out one night and eat anything and everything until your heart content?

Let me tell ya I have been thinking about it.

I've asked myself that question ever since I developed diabetes. But I've learned that splurging even once is damaging to one's body. High blood glucose kills certain cells in our body and they can't be replaced. So, just accept it and move on. There are many other pleasures in life that we can all enjoy that have nothing to do with food.

You also have to remember that "one night" can lead to elevated glucose levels for a day or so after. It can also turn into "one night a week" then "a couple of nights a week" or "every night" It's OK to splurge, but in a controlled way, eating anything and everything isn't.

Anytime your BG is over 140 you are doing damage to yourself. Splurging just isn't worth it.
