I ask my doctor if I should test before my shot and take that into consideration but she is vauge on this. I take 70 units of lantus every morning and 14 units of humalog before each meal

Hi Lee Roy. I test in the morning b-4 I get my coffee. When it is lower than 180, I hold off my shot for a bit. Only eat a light breakfast like an scrambled egg or something like a granola bar. Then I test about 30 minutes later. If my b/s is okay, I will only take a half of my injection. As tweetydele stated, everyone is different. So use you may need to do some trial and error. Good luck. You need to know how to carb count then you can ajust your insulin needs for what you eat .Its been the only way for me not to have the ups and downs all the time.
Best wishes

if my bs ever went to 40 or 35 i wouldnt b able to get out of bed, isnt it funny how different peoples bs is so differemt for all of us and some can eat things that would put my bs out of sight. like my bro in law can eat a pieoce of cake and take his bs and its 125 mine would b well over 200. pasta does the same thing to me…

Hi Lee-roy, Welcome to the community.

Do you keep a log of what you eat, exercise and meds? Sometimes you can find patterns in your routine that may be causing the low to happen. 35 is a bit scary I bet, and maybe it could even be something as simple as a new vial of insulin or an old one. Keeping track will help you to see what could be causing it.

Have you seen a diabetes educator? They seem to know more about these issues than some doctors do. Might be worth a try before you have a serious problem. Roy
