I just want to say, that I thank God for Subway and for Wendys and Arbys. I have found healthy food I can eat and my blood sugar is stays in range. My A1C was only 6.7 this last month and I eat out all the time. Byetta injections help me alot though also. If you stick to grilled chicken items on the menu, you will do great!!!

Subway rocks! For me most anyplace is good except if there is a tortilla or wrap option instead of the carb loaded bread.. that's what i get :) It's all about smarter choices for me.

You are so right, I love Subway. I found out just today that their flatbread has more calories than there other bread, I thought for sure it would be less but they posted the calories on it at my favorite Subway restaurant recently and I read all about it today so I think I will stick to the Honey Wheat bread from now on. Smarter choices is the way to go, I totally agree kgee102605, keep on making the smart choices!!!

Hello there Janet! My old diabetic educator gave me a small sample book from Lilly called " Nutrition in the Fastlane". In researching, I found out that Franklin Publishing published the MUCH BIGGER version of this book and was pretty cheap. I think it was about $6.95 plus shipping & handling. The book has been a god sent gift to me. Since I am a VERY BUSY wife, mother of 3, and a nursing student. It has A LOT of the favorite restaurants that we all love. For me, Subway is not even a block away from my college. I LOVE their roasted grilled chicken salad with only 12g of carbs (no croutons though) along with a yogurt. Hope this helps you further in enjoying eating out more.

thanks for the info, I will shop for your book. I like Subway's oven roasted chicken breast flat bread sandwich with provalone cheese and all the veges with low fat mayo and mustard, try it sometime, you'll love it!

Thanks for sharing, Janet! I found a library book called "Restaurant Confidential" which I ended up buying from Amazon for a few bucks. It's a great resource that lists the calories, fat and sodium from various take out places, mall eateries, and other chains. There are also sections such as the best of and worst of restaurant options.
