My daughter is very overweight and was recently diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. I am trying to help her take some weight off, I have read up on Lap band surgery. I want to learn all I can about it before spending money on it and having her undergo any kind of surgery. Please let me know your experiences with this procedure.

There are a lot of discussions on this subject. http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions?query=lap+band There have been mixed results with it. Personally, and that is just my feeling, I would work with your daughter to get it done through discipline and encouragement. She is young and if you teach her how to change her lifestyle, that will last longer than any surgery. It might take more work, but it can be a great bonding time for you both.

Four years ago my sister-in-law had it done at the same time I started the low carb (6-12-12) program. Results for her: 15,000 dollars in medical bills plus enduring a burst stich and and infection. Lost 42 lbs and gained half of it back.
Me: No dollars spent. Lost 77 lbs and kept 59 of it off for over two years. Got off of both of my meds for diabetes (actos and metformin). The weigh I have put back on is actually muscle from my weight lifting.
