Just kidding. I am now NPO for the next 3 days or so. Meaning I can not eat anything at all or have anything to drink. I asked them what to do about my insulin and they told me quit taking my basal and go back to my old sliding scale that is not based on my insulin sensitivity.

Glad I called the Diabetic Educator!! She told me to take my basal and just check every 4 hours or so and take bolus based on no carb intake. Thank goodness for her!!

Can I ask why you are being required to go so long without food and water? Yes, and thank goodness for our diabetes educators! They are life savers in more ways than one.

Recurring Pancreantitus. (Can never spell right) My doctor always gives me a choice Home or Hospital unless My Amylase and Lipase are really bad then it is Hospital.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does the fast do to help? Does it calm it down or something. It just sounds so strange to have fasting and a type 1 in the same boat. I used to fast a lot but now that I am diagnosed, I am a little afraid to do it.

I will tell you it is not fun. First time since diagnosed Type 1. This is also how they knew my Type 1 was coming all the damage to my Pancreas.

Yes it basically gives the Pancreas a rest and lets it heal.

Wow, that is intense. I can see why you would consider doing it in the hospital. That is one of my fears with taking glipizide for my diabetes. I don't want to wear out the pancreas I have. I am considering going on insulin very seriously because of that. My dad died of pancreatic cancer...makes me a little nervous.

I also wanted to say that I thought that my Dr. was trying to kill me, and I asked him that question. He laughed. And then said you'll survive.

MY first answer was deleted. So I guess I know not to do that again. My first answer was about fasting quite abit too, but since I've been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic I've slacked off of the fasting. I just thought that that was the wisest thing to do. and I stated that I am undergoing a coloscopy June 11. And my Doc. expects me to eat Jello all day long and drink apple juice and drink broth. YYYUM!!!!!

Never had to have a colonoscopy but have had to do the clear liquid diet too many times! Feel for ya on that one. I usually skip it now and just wait longer to start on solids.

All I can say is good luck on the colonscopy. And you will just loooooove the prep they make you drink. NOT.. The day of the prep be prepared to live in the bathroom and I mean live in the bathroom. Do not stray more than 3 feet from the porcelain throne. I have had 7 of those beauties.

I hate going to the Hospital. There for about 8-10 Months I was in almost every weekend. ALL the ER doctors and Nurses in the hospital know me. LOL.
