YMCA (without the Village People)

I just want to say that my wife and I recently joined our local YMCA and we love it. We have each other for work out buddies and it's going well. She does the pool on most visits and I do the treadmill and weights. We both do a group aerobic class on Tuesday nights that's pretty cool for us both. I could never understand why everyone had an Ipod in their ears but I guess it's to drown out the sounds of newbies like me shrieking in pain. My funniest experience? I flew off the treadmill… twice. I was tying up my gym shorts so I wouldn't be "lookin like a fool with my pants on the ground". (lyrics courtesy of "pants on the ground" - American Idol). Anyone else active with the YMCA???

Congratulations on your gym routine! We juts received our family scholarship to join the Y. I can not wait to start my new exercise routine. The kids can not wait because it is family swim time together each week. Than I will begin my classes this fall once I get really into the swing of things. Lol about your experince! It will be even nicer to have a couples gym time when the kids are not home and he's off of work. Keep tracking there and have fun while doing it. :)

I never checked out if my insurance covers the Y but it's around $56 for the two of us and no contract. I could ask… it wouldn't hurt. Most of the gyms here don't have the pool which is why the wife likes it and uses it. The water aerobics is her thing. I can remember spending a heck of alot more than $56 a month on unhealthy things so we get our money's worth.

Our local gym is $125 for a whole year. Good deal. Pool, classes, free weights and machine room all included. Personal training is extra, but if you go to some of the classes you get what you need for at least that type of exercise. So that is what I am saving up for.

We could not afford the YMCA, but we have a local gym that is right around the corner. My husband belongs (lucky him with insurance that covers it.) But I am saving to start. I like the aquasize class a lot. It is twice a week and I am a water baby. I suppose because the only place I like to sweat is in my garden. go figure. LOL
