Can you tell if you are Type 1 or Type 2. I say this because I remember having diabetes when I was a child

Your doctor should tell you. If you had it as a child then you would have had it ever since then. There are some other types that develop soon after birth and do go away but you wouldn't know about it because you would be too young. How were you diagnosed?

Type 1 is an autoimmune disease that destroys the insulin producing cells of the pancreas so you can no longer produce insulin. Type 2 is a kind of catch all for things that don't fit into the other categories. Usually the person has high insulin resistance or doesn't produce enough insulin. Really, diabetes is not well understood yet but they are slowly figuring things out.
