Syracuse, NY:

The day has commenced here in Central New York. There was a Health Fair with educators and doctors at the Community Health Center. The local Joslin Facility held free screenings. The posters from the ADA site and the Risk Test were displayed in local Pharmacies.

A blurb on a local morning show, a blog and an opinion article on the local newspapers website was all the media attention this important day received.

I worked with my local ADA Associate Manager about getting the media coverage but it was to no avail. She is most disappointed because there was a convocation by our Mayor and a speech by our County Executive at City Hall and not one (of 4) TV stations showed up.

Unfortunate but she still did a great job! I let everyone I know about the day through email, phone calls and MySpace.

I do hope other areas got more attention. Waiting for the Nightly News to see what they have…

Guess Diabetes is not a news-worthy subject today? But it was when the report of the cost on the US economy came out? Hmmmmm…

For those of you who don't know - Tuesday, March 25 is American Diabetes Alert Day. Observed on the fourth Tuesday of every March, this year is the 20th annual one-day, wake-up call to inform the American public about the seriousness of diabetes.
