How many of you like to eat out sometimes? Yet, you are feared or don't know how to carb it or what your eating? I was given a small sample of a book called Nutrition in the Fastlane by Franklin Publishing. I just ordered a bigger version of the book. It has been a amazing gift for me in trying to eat out. With me being on a insulin pump, I must count every and all carbs I put into my mouth. The book allows you to find safe foods you can eat at a lot of famous known restaurants. I have been now learning how not to fear a restaurant. It has given me a better since of the not so good things that I was eating and how I can eater better with my family eating out. Vacationing does not have to be a drag for people either anymore. This book or and a good travel size carb counter is ultimately the best way to stay on track while being on vacation. Good example is Disney, cruises, skiing trips, and more. Do not be afraid to ask question if you do not know about something on a menu either. Know what you are eating. Just do not be afraid of it! Food is not suppose to be our enemy. We should try to make friends with the good and safe foods that we eat. In a lot of my blogging, reading, and talking to others alike, I have noticed this is a common question and concern for a lot of diabetics out there. I just wanted to share a little something to help another. If I can help one person in life. It will make me feel like I have done something positive to help another and not just myself. Here's is to eating right, being positive, and the journey we all must follow each and every day of our life. Hang in there and be strong against the fight. :)

Hi Monkeymama, I am newly diagnosed with pre-diabetes and am being managed with Metformin and diet. I bought a small guide at my nutritionist's office called "The Calorie King, Calorie Fat & Carbohydrate Counter", which includes 200 Fast-food chains & restaurants. It also includes a Diabetes Diet Guide as well as a website, www.CalorieKing.com, for food product updates. It is written by Allan Borushek, Dietitian. It seems to have everything in it. Great resource!

This is great. Would you be a dear and review it in our Book Club section? When you do that, it will link up to Amazon and people will be able to order it.
I know I have one from the ADA, but it is limited and even though it is only 1 year old, I am sure it is outdated with all the new things that restaurants are being required to do. This book sounds like a must have.

I tried to do a review on it but it will not allow me to submit it. Something to do with not being allowed without author. I even tried putting author in and it won't even let me do that. Sorry! :)
