I have been a diabetic for 8 years and I am still having trouble putting meals together. I always include vegies and fruit , but I am confused about starches and carbs. Does any one have any suggestions. I love to read, any books that i should read?

My dietitian said that if we look at our plate in a couple of ways it will help. First, to see meat as a side dish instead of the main event. Smaller portions of protein so you have more room for those leafy greens. Every meal, even breakfast if you can do it, should include low carb veggies like zucchini, leaf veggies like spinach and sprouts are great too. Those can fill a plate and make it pretty too. As for your carbs, you want to keep them to about 45g per meal. Maybe 60, but that is up to you and your doctor to work out. If you get an exchange book from the ADA, it will explain how to choose carbs for a meal. Like you could have a sandwich with two slices of bread, but that would mean no you might have to skip the chips. BUT you can always have a veggie like celery or cucumber slices. They give crunch, without the carbs.

I am lucky, mine can sleep through anything. Lights, computer, dogs...just about anything. He has to kiss me good night before he goes to bed, because he won't wake up when I come to bed for one. LOL

My hubby kisses me goodnight when he goes to bed to. Sometimes nothing will wake him up and other times the least little thing will.

me to my husband leaves me up in the dark i have to go to the dinning room and he gets up and close the door he has to get up at 5:00 un the morning so any lights will wake him and he get like a evil b. if you know what i mean and i'm up some times until 1or 2 o'clock in the morning by my self.

Hello there! I was just introduced to a new pasta by my dietician that is better for me and my diabetes. It is called, "Dreamfields", and it has a low glycemic index- 5g of digestible carbs in each serving. Dreamfields also has a website you can go to for coupons . Along with healthy, fun, and delicious recipes you can try. Have you also tried the recipes from here on Diabetic Connect. The book club also has a wonderful listing of some GREAT cookbooks you might like to try. Hope this helps you out!

Hello, monkeymama!! I love your name, so cute. I haven't heard of dreamfields, but I will look for at the store and I will visit the website. Yes, that has helped me alot, thanks. I just joined yesterday, so I haven't looked at everything yet. I did go to the book store, and I ordered, The Diabetes Food and Nutrition Bible: A complete Guide to Planning, Shopping, Cooking, and Eating. I will look at the recipes in a little bit. I love to cook and to eat!

i wish you would relate that to my mom i try to teel her that i can eat pasta in moderation and she tell me no as long as i measure it out i can iknow that there are whole grian pasta in the stores so i can eat those can't i i love my meatballs and spegetti, i know there is brown rice and whole wheat noodles i saw those myself. so you tell me because i'm tired of the same foods.

My mom is that way too. She thinks that she knows everything and you can't tell her any different!! I love brown rice, the taste and texture, yum! I haven't tried the whole wheat noodles yet. I wonder if they are good?
