After having had my second colonoscopy this past week and discussing the Lapband possibility with my gastroenterologist, I now have a referral to see the surgeon about the Lapband. Hopefully I can make some definite plans for this soon as I see the surgeon September 4th and discuss the reasons/rationals behind this idea. I will share the information that I learn with you after the appointment.
By the way: NO POLYPS this time ! I can wait 3 years now before my next colonoscopy !

This is one procedure that I know next to nothing about. I've seen a few advertisments on TV, but that is all. Reading that you might be considering it has made me want to find out more. Guess I will do a web search and wait to hear what you find out. Good luck and Congrats on the excellent test results this time.

My weight is 236 and my doctor has me on lantus 50mg at night.metorformin2x a day 500mg .and also actos 10mg
I often feel tired in the afternoon and have to take a nap.

Me too, always want a nap in the pm. I have heard that's a side effect of Actos (and Zetia for hi cholesterol). I never felt old (73)'til I had to start all these meds. Now, somedays I feel 60 yrs old rather than the 50 I felt before.
I won't use Zetia anymore and that really helped. elfin

I am going to have this surgery on August 18th, 2008. Yes, Monday. I have gone to lots of websites and found great information. Believe it or not my Doctor sold me a book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies". It is one terrific book. He also had me go to a Nutritionist who has had the surgery and so far lost 80 lbs. and is keeping it off. I also had to go toa Psychologist to make sure I was well prepared and knew what I was getting into. Check out your local hospitals on the internet to see if what doctors do lapband surgery and what support groups there are in your area. I live in Aiken, SC and will be going to Augusta, GA for the surgery which is about 20 minutes from my home. I will keep you posted.

Good luck in your surgery if you do decide to go that way. I'm reducing weight by simply exercising, walking and life style changes. I will find out in this month, August, just how much I have lost. But I know that it is working for me because of the physical changes and my clothes are now to big…SMILES.

But nevertheless, I will suppoort you in what ever decision you make no matter what it is.

Hugs and Kisses

Yay - no polyps! My RD knows a lot about the lap band surgery and talked about it last week in my group. One of the biggest problems is that if you don't address the problems of compulsive overeating, the patient will still continue to gain weight or turn to alcohol, drugs. Also, there are severe diet restrictions after the surgery. My friend had the surgery over a year ago and has lost lots of weight, but her energy level is not back to normal yet.
In the same time period, she lost 40 pounds and I lost 22
pounds without the surgery. But, everyone is different and I support you 100% if that's your decision.

Everything I've read sounds so encouraging about the lapband. You'll have to keep us posted. Though if this procedure effectively reduces your diabetes to nothing more than a memory, you have to promise to still come back here and visit every now and again :-)

I've heard a lot about the lap band procedure, but never a personal one. If you decide to do it please keep us posted. I am interested in it, but not sure Medicare will pay for it.
Congratulations on clean colonoscopy…uhhh that came out sounding like a pun ;-)
