Hello everyone. I want to share some news. I ordered a Smart Kit through the ADA, it was free and it came with booklets, a dvd and a diabeties dictionary and it helped teach me alot about diabetes with kids and teenagers. I am home schooling myself now so i can take care of my baby sister Kylie and go to her docter visits. I am able to take good care of Kylie and we are doing good. The smart kit also comes with a game for kids and an emerceny list and you can right signs of low and high sugars and put on your fridge. It has been great help and I recommend this for anyone with kids with diabetes. hope everyone is doing just as good.

For those who may be interested in the Diabetes Wish Kit, here is a link to the kit and it's contents :

The kit is FREE, there is no cost passed on to you at all.
I have ordered one previously and distributed it to a local day care center as a gift, you can order one and give it to the family of a diabetic child or keep it for yourself, it's a great educational tool !

I think it is great for a kit for families with children that have diabetes but what about the adults that have it and is looking for a great kit like this?

It's good that you are learning but I'm going to be a bit of a party pooper. You can't homeschool yourself, there is a lot of things that need to be done in order to homeschool or distance learn and they all require an adult to setup, teach and/or supervise. This is something that could cause a lot of problems for you in the future so it's better to get it sorted now.

This is very true. I presumed that you were just doing for the rest of the year. You only have a month or so left right? Getting the courses from school?

KitKatt93 2010-04-28 23:21:10 -0500 Report

yea not much longer and I will do this until I finish my work and get a diploma. I get to work at my own pace but I'll be done in a year if I work during summertime.

I am so glad to hear that you are doing so well. You have great fortitude and I know you will do great in all you put your mind to. We are all rooting for you!!

My aunt called and set it up for me. I can't think of the name of the school but they send you books and you study and do work and tests and mail it to them and they will grade it. It's not really homeschooling but it's like is someone was in college and taking online classes, but I'm in high school. My mom didn't care what I did as long as I keep up good grades and my sister is being cared for. I talked to my school counselor about it and she wasn't high on the idea but agreed it's what Kylie needs and I will get a high school diploma. You sound like my algebra teacher lol it's okay. We are doing very good.

OK, that sounds like it was set up right. I just have a lot of exposure to homeschooling/distance learning in the K-12 market and know it's not as easy to do or graduate as a lot of people think.

Sounds like you've got things under control! I just wanted to encourage you in what your doing because I'm a homeschool graduate, and pretty much homeschooled "myself" through all of highschool!

The important thing to remember is that we are the ones responsible for what we walk away knowing, whether it's diabetes or just general knowledge! We get out what we put in. I was never even enrolled with distance learning programs (getting the books with my parents that I would need to have a highschool education on my own), and I've graduated and am starting online college courses with Thomas Edison college this year!

What you are doing for your baby sister is amazing and so special, I'm sure she is going to remember it all her life and love you even more for the sacrifices you are making!

Hello Least and thank you for your encouragement. I get nervous when the idea of me teaching myself pops in my head and I get nervous because my parents want me to sustain at least a 4.0 GPA. So far I have succeeded but I have had great teachers.

Thomas Edison sounds like a good school (after I read your comment I looked it up). Good luck with college!

LMAO Why is there a gorilla in replace of Kyle for my picture??????????

KitKatt93 2010-05-01 19:14:35 -0500 Report

Nevermind it went away. It's back now! But when I post my comment it goes away and I have my picture back. Is anybody else having this happen?

KitKatt93 2010-05-04 12:47:03 -0500 Report

This whole thing I had wrong!!! Starting these books and dropping out of my school is going to cause me to have to start 11th grade from scratch. I went by to talk to my school counselor Mrs. Metheny yesterday and this is what she explained to me after she looked at my schooling information. This isn't fair! I stayed out today because my sister has a doctors appointment that my ma can't make it to. Tomorrow I will have to go back to school so I can be prepared for finals. I don't want to leave Kylie!! Our last day of school is on June 2nd :) but that's a month away. My ma doesn't do her blood sugar when I'm not there, at least it doesn't show up in the memory. But she does let me go to doctor appointments with her and she gives me $50 every week. Right now the world is dumb and I hate it.

Hey Kit,
I am so glad to hear that you are finding your feet with helping your sister. I know just a month ago you were panicked, now it seems you are doing very well with that responsibility. Do you have the actual link for where people can order the kit? If you could share that it would be great.
Good job girl! Your sister is so lucky to have you.

KitKatt93 2010-04-28 23:08:16 -0500 Report

Hello Gabby. I don't know how to share links so i didn't put it up but Mays put it up.
I still panick a lot but I try not to because she gets upset when she feels wierd from her blood sugars being too high or low but keeping a record of her blood sugars and medicines helps. Thankyou.

Well, I have to say that if you ever consider nursing or anything in the medical field, you are getting some serious on the job training.
