portion control???

When I was first diagnosed, one of the things I was told was to watch my protions. Not much was really said about carbs. So, I had a cup of this, and a 1/4 cup of that, and one of these and one and 1/2 of those. Ta-dah! Well, almost. I was doing all the porton control in one meal. Then I would take my sugar and get a whopping 300!
I think that instead of calling it portion control, it should be called carb control. It was not until a year after I was diagnosed, that I learned about how many carbs I should be taking in at a meal.So, I now do what I call carb control instead of protion control. does this make sense?

Yes it does make sense. I attended a class for diabetics at my local hospital after being diagnosed and the first thing taught was to read labels and count carbs. The final class involved a shopping trip. So I was always taught count carbs.

I think that what you said makes perfect sense. I have found that understanding the carb diet is a fundemental of controlling my diabetis! I have been diagnosed for 3 1/2 yrs and I am just learning what I wish that I was taught from the beginning. I believe that every person with diabetis should be taught this from the start. I sincerely think that if I were on a "Carb Diet" my feet would still be in check, my eyes would be in control, my cholesterol, lipids, and heart condition.
