My latest A1c was 8.9, BUT, this is a total improvement over the time prior. That was so so high I can barely think about it. One pharmacist siad" That is hospital time". At that point I was way past being just burned out. I had been on a fast acting insulin when I needed a long acting. My sugars have always been all over the road. I am just so thankful God has kept me through all of that. The insulin I take Lantus was not covered under my plan until 6 months or so ago. The doctor did not even know it was now covered. The other, Januvia, was by special authorization. I am "over the top happy" that this is working
I can hardly wait til the next A1c.

WTG!!! Keep up the good work. I too would like to know more about your beans and spinach, could you fill us in more please?

That is so awesome, it gives me inspiration to do better when I read things like this. Thank you!!

That is great. My diabetes is weight and diet controlled. I lost a lot of weight and I am not on medication anymore. So keep up the great work and keep us posted. I am glad to see you had a great report on your levels as well 4.7 A1C and a fasting glucose level of 83. Wow, you go.

That is fantastic!! that is a better A1c than a lot of non-diabetic people! I will have to give your bean and spinach salad a try. I am going to be doing a vegetarian run again in May, so please share your recipe with us.

How long do you do your vegetarian runs? I go on a kick once or twice a year for about 2 months at a time. Does it help you at all, health wise?

GabbyPA 2010-04-17 07:49:40 -0500 Report

I did it for a month last year and it does help a lot. My numbers tend to be lower, I feel like exercising and once I get over the MEAT withdraw, I'm good. I feel better when I do it, but because I am the only one who does it, it becomes rather cumbersome to fix dual meals and try to keep it going. I am wanting to do it for 2 months in a row this time. I have subscribed to some great raw foods information so that will help too.

Okay you subscribed to great raw foods info. Where did you find that at I would be interested in taking a look. Since my sugars are up I have to make some changes again unfortunately I am really not a bean eater. I like raw or straight from the can green beans and light red kidney beans when I make chili. Thanks to that other site you mentioned I have found out that some of my medications will spoke my sugars so I have to figure how much and when so I can try and lower it.

That is really terrific! What kind of diet are you on?

LOL I am sure if you live with someone, they don't appreciate the aftereffects of the beans. Smile!

im not realy on any major diet. i cut out all breads and pastas. and also cut out all soda or any drinks with carbs. i eat lean meats, i eay a ton of veggies and a ton of beans. i make my own beans bec they are low sodium. i also but my daily intake of sodium to 1,500mg and that has helped alot.i eat beans bec they have a ton of fiber. and if you are taking in alot of fiber, you have to drink a ton of water. if you dont drink a ton of water than the beans will give you gas.lol im taking in about 1,300 calories a day and trying to lose a little more weight.

That is what I am trying to do. I am on 1600 calories/day but because I count carbs, I cannot fit all that food into my super reduced size of a tummy. Things that have basically not much in them I save for when I have the munchies. They do not tickle my fancy, but they also do not up my sugars. So, there you go!

GabbyPA 2010-04-16 07:30:33 -0500 Report

What kind of beans do you use? Canned, dried or fresh? What type of beans do you like to make? I like most of them but am fond of black, canelli, and pinto. I also like black eye peas. I have heard that the darker the bean the better it is for you.

Do you have any "recipes" you could pass on w/the beans you eat for breakfast? I am struggling very badly trying to keep my counts down.
