Vision Question

My blood sugar was almost 400 (fasting). I noticed that I've had blurred vision for the past couple of months, but I didn't put two and two together until I had the blood test.

My question is: does the blurred vision go away or at least get better as my sugar levels (hopefully) go back to normal with medication/diet/exercise, or is it going to stay?

When I was first diagnosed with T1 I vision range was 5 feet. I thought I was going blind. I was sent for a blood test and my BS level was 800. The Dr. told me with a high BS level the back of the eye swells up and restricts vision. After I was put on insulin my vision came back to normal within a week. Hope this helps. Jeff

Thank you guys so much for your replies! It's putting my mind at ease a bit. I've always had bad eyesight anyway, so the blurred vision on top of it has been upsetting.

I am under a doctor's care. It appears that the prednisone that I had to take for my asthma made my blood sugar go up; I'm not taking it anymore, and we're closely monitoring my blood sugar. I'm on pills and insulin right now to bring it down. We should see in a few weeks if it will return to normal or if I've developed diabetes while taking the prednisone. Either way, you guys are a great support system!

Most of the time, unless there is major damage done to the optic nerve of the eye or other damages, your blurry vision problems should clear up as your blood glucose levels get better (normal).

Always see your eye doctor at least once a year, as well as your regular doctor.

When my sugars are high I can't see without my glasses. When they go down I can see preety well! Have you seen your doc about the high #'s? If not, you should. Not only is it effecting your eyes but your whole body! And by the way welcome to DC!
