fat-free dressings tend to have higher carbs, I use light because it has fewer carbs and fat.
Spicy foods are fine, unless you have ulcers - than watch out!!

Spice it up! If you enjoy a little heat or extra flavor in your foods add it. If it is straight spice, most of them add little to your carb counts and add a LOT to your satisfaction.

I didn't quite understand your "orange" comment. I tend to stay away from orange juice, but whole oranges are better if you want to eat orange. Fresh squeezed orange juice is far better than anything out of a carton.

Load up on leafy greens. Spinach, lettuce, sprouts, collards and more. Those are great for every part of your body, and I have found when I eat more of the darker greens, I feel fuller with my salads. Toss in some tomatoes, carrots, celery, sprouts, radishes, parsley....make it lively and you will want to eat them more.

I eat a lot of spicy foods and love them. I am especially fond of Mexican, being a fairly recent transplant to the desert southwest. The main thing is the overall carb count. You also need to watch the fats too but that may be a little advanced for a new diabetic. I do quite well if I just control the carbs. Of course, if spicy foods burn your mouth or stomach, you'll need to use moderation. Personally, I could eat jalepenos like popcorn.

How about habeneros? I have a cake recipe that uses them and an apple pie recipe that uses New Mexico Hatch chiles…They are great desserts because they are self limiting on portion size…Too hot to overeat!!!! LOL
