That same thing happened to me in the mid 1990's. I gained 57 pounds after switching to modern day insulins. My total daily insulin dosage increased 40%. In 1998 I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. I was a Type 1 with a Type 2 characteristic, that is called double diabetes. I had to start taking a Type 2 medicine to control the insulin resistance and get my dosage back to normal. Then I reduced my daily carb intake to 130g. I bought a treadmill and strengthened my leg muscles. I started walking outdoors for one hour each day on roads with lots of hills. I had to build up to that very gradually so I would not hurt myself. I lost 34 pounds and I am keeping it off. I am now 70 years old and I have been Type 1 for 64 years. I am very healthy. With good control and getting rid of the extra weight you can have a long, healthy life.
