I have questioned my doctor on several occassions as to all the pills. ie: blood pressure/water pill and colesterol and low dose asprin he has told me all diabetics need to take these pills please let me know if you all are on all this medication?
my blood pressure is in the normal range has been all my life, i retain very little water and i have been told i have a strong heart.

Yes I take all those medications. High Blood Pressure, Cholestrol, and 3 diabetic meds. I am trying to reduce that I don't like taking all these pills.

I'm on Metformin (for Diabetes), Lisinopril (for Blood Pressure), Lexapro (for Depression), and Levoxyl (for Thyroid). I'm supposed to take the aspirin, but I don't. It's hard on my stomach.

Yes, I have been put on all those meds too. However, I have normally low blood pressure and the med makes it too low. The doctor says to take it anyway to protect my kidneys. Says all diabetics have high blood pressure in their kidneys even if their readings are low. Has your doctor said anything to you about this?

depending on what diabetes medicaion you are on (i am thinking specifically of Actos or Advandia) you may need the water pill to keep from retaining too much water— which often is a side effect of the above mentioned drugs.

the only one I'm on is Lisinopril to protect the kidneys. I can only have 5mg once a day because my bp is fine and the Dr. doesn't want it to drop. None of those other meds were recomended. Jeff

I take all of these and a lot more. If you don't have high blood pressure I can't think of why you would need that. I have taken the water pill because my feet swell so bad. I take the colesterol pills because mine was high. I take a low dose asprin cause my doctor makes everyone over 40 take them for their hearts. But I didn't go on them until there was a problem that I needed to take them. I would find a doctor that knows a bit more about diabetes!

"all diabetics should be on them" is not a valid reason in my book. If your doctor can't tell you why YOU need them then find a new doctor or don't take them. My doctors have explained and convinced me to take a low dose of blood pressure medication but not for aspirin or cholesterol meds. I have never heard of water pills being dished out as standard to diabetics. I have seen the data that shows low dose blood pressure medication can help protect the kidneys and eyes from damage high blood sugar can do (up to a point) but nothing that shows cholesterol medication or aspirin will help a diabetic with normal lab results.
