Well here it is another Month. This Year is going so fast some days and then on other days so slow.
I was thinking of not doing one for this Month.
April Fools everyone. Yes I just waited till now to make all believe that I was passing it up.
Yesterday I went and paid the bills as Bill asked me to do and got the Diabetic Journal the Dr. said to get to make me more accountable to my self. So I am starting out with it today.
Please share any thing you feel like and also ask any questions of all of us on here, if we can answer it we will or we'll find the answer for you.

I got in my mail today from Accu-Chek a Booklet on Carbohydrate Counting. Inside the back cover it has a Sample Carb Counting Plan

Along the left side it has the Meals and Snack listed then it has the Carb Target Range Total Grams and Total Carb servings
per meal For instance on breakfast it has 45 grams and 3 servings this is with having: grams carb. serving
1c corn flakes 24 1 1/2
1/2 c fat-free milk 7 1/2
1 small banana (4oz.) 23 1 1/2
2 oz. bagel 29 2

Lunch is 60 grams and 4 servings Having the following:
Pita bread sandwich
(1Whole pita) 27 2
Lettuce,tomato and
cucumber slices 0.5 0
2 oz. lean ham 1 0
1 oz. part -skim cheese 0.5 0
1cup fat-free milk 12 1
Salad with oil and
vinegar dressing. 3oz. 4 0
1 medium tangerine 4 oz. 13 1
17 small grapes 14 1

Dinner has 75 grams and 5 servings with having the following:
1 cup cooked rice 44 3
4oz. baked salmon 0 0
1cup raw broccoli 6 1/2
1 small dinner roll, 1 oz. 17 1
1/2 cup green beans 4 1/4
1/2 cup apple juice 15 1

Snack has 30grams and 2 servings with having the following:
3 small cookies 21 1 1/2
1/2 cup fat-free mild 6 1/2
3 cups plain popcorn 15 1

For some reason when I total up the grams and the servings they don't total what the plan says it is.
Counting carbs on the go:
You can count carbs two ways:
Carb servings(CS). Count the number of carb servings per meal (3-4 carb servings for women, and 4-5 carb servings for men).
1 Carb serving = 15 carb grams

Total carb (TC) grams. Count the number of total carbs of each food item and stay within a total amount per meal (45-60 grams for women, 60-75grams for men).

Bill just got a call from Swift and he is out on the Road tomorrow Afternoon we hope. He has to be in Gary,IN tomorrow by 2 pm I sure hope they have him a Truck so he can get going over the road like he wants. Will write more tomorrow when I get home to let all know how the trip went and if Bill is on a long Haul or waiting in the Motel for a Truck.

We only have the Bathroom left to get done now. Gerry is finishing up outside on the sealer for the siding. We had a hard rain before we got up but the siding is dry and so Gerry is finishing up with the 2nd coat of sealer. I hope he gets the cut in done today also.
Waiting for my Brother-in-law and nephew to get here to start on the Bathroom. Bill took out the rotted floor yesterday and then to insulate the Floor joints to get a head start on the floor and walls. Lets hope it is a head start and not finding out him and Gerry have to do it also.
My sugar was 78 this morning and only 111 just before bed last night. it was 130 two hours after I finished supper last night. Doing better now. and I am down about 5 pounds total. I can't wait to see 200 pounds on the scale then I get to get me a new Light House for outside my home with a light on top. I told Bill when I hit 200 I am getting me a lighthouse for over the top of the Gas Meter.

That is my first Goal on the Weight Loss.
The next one is for every 10 pounds I lose I get to buy a small lighthouse for my collection in the house.
The last Goal is when I hit 150 pounds I get to buy a whole new Wardrobe. I can't wait to meet my Goals on this Weight Loss Battle.

They are finally gone and I am glad.
I had to check my meter to be sure it is reading correct as my BS numbers since all of this had started is in the normal range now. Real low in the am and not over 120 at bed time. last night it was 111 this morning it was 68 I believe. Well have to run as in the Bathroom. Talk to you later.

Hello Everyone I just got back from Gary, Indiana last night and have been fighting the runs since Wednesday afternoon. I am having trouble getting them to stop any suggestions please. I am breaking out in a cold sweat and running to the bathroom every 30-45 mins. nothing I have done is helping me.

I almost forgot to let all know Bill finished Testing Out Yesterday and passed with a 93% overall and will get his own Truck on the 4th we hope and then will be back out on the Road on the 5th if all goes well.

Good Evening everyone. Today I had some very good news for a change. First I forgot which Sunday in the Month it was so I went to Church Fasting and had a few things on my mind I needed answers for from God which kept me from taking of the Sackrament. By the end of Services today I knew what I had to do. I have handled everything that I needed to and feel 100% better.
During Relief Society class I was asked if I would like to become a Visiting Teacher and I said yes Thankyou. By the time I start my post in May I will have talked to my Bishop and get back on the right path to do justice to my calling. I am so glad that I forgot the day and now have my path clear again for me.

Now on to the rest of my post for how my Diabetes is doing this week.
Here are my numbers for this week On the 19th @ 8:07 am BS was 71 then @ 9:03am it was 104 @ 5 pm it was 121 and @ 9:13pm it was 128 not bad for that day.
On the 20th @8:27am BS was 61 then at 9:45am it was 152 @ 3:31pm it was 108 and @ 9:49pm it was 188
On the 21st I took the day off as I call it when I am just plan mad at my self and want to do things as if I don't have Diabetes.
on the 22nd My BS was174 @ 8:53 am and then @ 4:12pm it was 216 @ 5:47 it was 217 and then @ 8:12 it was down to 162 as I learned from taking the day off not to good or smart of me as my numbers show.
on the 23rd @8:44am BS was 131 coming back down, which is good. then @ 12:22 it was 142 @ 4:50pm it was 147 again not to bad.
On the 24th @ 7:54am BS was 154 up a bit not good and then @ 7:24it was 230
Today my BS was106 @ 8:54am the only thing I had till after church was my meds with water. @ 5:14pm after my only real meal of the day it was 222 and then @ 10:10pm it was 242 not good numbers today but when I got on the Scale after I got home this afternoon I am now down to 256.4 pounds from over 260 on March 8th. So I am heading in the right direction on my weight at long last. With the Weather getting warmer and not as much rain or inbetween the rains I get more exercise and am using a Stationary Bike that Bingo gave me.
Thanks Bingo I am now up to 4/10 of a mile each time I use it with out rubbery legs when I get off of it.

Please check it out and see how you are fairing in your BS testing.
I have made one full copy of it and 7 copies of page 2 I am going to be using it to find out how the different foods affect my Blood Sugar Testing and that way I will know the change in my testing to help bring down my own numbers. I believe this tool will help us all in the future to better understand our numbers. The other site to get this information completely is as follows:

They replaced my one meter when I first got it and my numbers were jumping all over the board. and then they sent me a back up meter just incase any thing went wrong again. I love the support they give me and the information I can get from their site too.

As I was not on here Yesterday I will post 3 Tips today. It appears the last time I posted a tip was on March 4th. Sorry for being so lazy lately.
OK here is tips 26 & 27
TIP 26
My doctor wants me to start insulin, but I'm afraid I'll gain too much weight. How can I prevent weight gain while I'm taking insulin? (I need this one too)

When your blood glucose is high, you lose calories as sugar in your urine. Taking insulin will help you manage your blood glucose levels, which can make you feel better every day and lower your chances of developing complications. This is important! However, when you stop losing calories in your urine, you can gain weight.
Review your eating habits, your total calories, they types of food you eat, and the amount of fat and carbohydrate you eat with your RD. You may not need to eat as many calories, or you may need more exercise. These changes will help you take advantage of the more efficient job your body is doing at capturing and storing glucose.
There is another way that insulin can cause weight gain. If you take more insulin than you need, then you have to eat to "feed" the insulin and avoid low blood glucose. If you find yourself eating more than you want just to avoid hypoglycemia, your insulin dose may need adjusting. Discuss your medications, weight goal, and meal plan with your health care providers if you are concerned about gaining weight.

TIP 27
My doctor just switched my insulin to Humalog. How will this affect my blood glucose and meal plan?

You may find it easier to keep your blood glucose levels on target, and you may have more flexible mealtimes. Humalog is a rapid-acting insulin that starts working within 10 mins. and peaks in 30-90 mins., the way a normal pancreas responds to food. You may not need snacks between meals as you did with regular insulin, because rapid-acting insulin does not stay in your body as long. You may need less Humalog than your regular insulin dose but more intermediate- or long-acting insulin.
When you take a rapid-acting insulin and your blood glucose is in the target range, you must eat within 15 mins. This is quite different from waiting 30-45 mins with regular insulin. If your blood glucose level is low before your meal, you might take Humalog after your meal.
It is easier ti fine-tune your insulin dose to a meal with rapid-acting insulin, because it works only on the food eaten right then. Monitor your blood glucose levels when you begin using Humalog to learn how the Medication works for you.

OK now here is one I found in a new Diabetic Cookbook I have been reading lately.
DIABETES NUTRITION 101
The primary goal in diabetes care is blood glucose control, followed closely by the need to control blood fats and blood pressure, and to minimize weight gain, all of which play a significant role in diabetes health.
At the foundation of achieving all of these goals is good nutrition. A nutritious, well balanced diet provides the building blocks for healthy body functioning, physical energy, satisfaction in eating and just feeling good!

USING THE FOOD PYRAMID
The Diabetes Food Guide Pyramid divides food into six groups based on similar nutrition content. The five lower parts represent the five different food groups that make up most of your diet. the top of the pyramid, labeled "Fats, Oils, Sweets and Alcohol," shows foods that should be limited, but don't need to be eliminated. The numbers next to each food group tell you how many servings are recommended from that particular group for each day.
Your body needs foods from all of the food groups. Your dietitian will help you develop a personal food plan that tells the specific number of servings from each group that you need to eat each day for good nutrition. Eating consistent amount of foods at consistent times is a key factor in your blood glucose control. Counting Carbohydrate Choices makes it easier to eat consistently from day to day.
Here is the Servings from each group that the Betty Crocker's Cookbook Recomends
FATS,OILS, SWEETS & ALCOHOL GROUP "use sparingly"
MILK GROUP "2-3 servings"
VEGETABLE GROUP "3-5 servings"
MEAT & OTHERS "2-3 servings"
FRUIT GROUP "2-4 servings"
GRAINS,BEANS& STARCHY VEGETABLES "6-11 servings"
It says under the Food Pyramid that it is Reprinted with the Permission from The American Diabetes Association.
Well I know I need to get back with my RD so that I can tweak my Meal Plan to show how much I need from each group. It might help me to lose more Weight. Mine is off on most areas. Not Good!

HAVE U TRIED THE BIG BAGS OF FRUIT THAT U CAN GET AT MEJIERS. THEY ARE IN THE FROZEN FOOD AREA AND ARE VERY GOOD. U CAN ALWAYS BREAK THEM DOWN INTO SMALLER BAGS AND PUT THEM IN YOUR FREEZER.
MY WEIGHT TODAY WAS UP A LITTLE TO 246 BUT AT LEAST MY BP ( 120/77) AND MY BS (82) WERE OK. I NEED TO GO SO I CAN GET TO THEREPY AS TODAY IS MY FIRST SESSION IN THE POOL I NEED TO BE THERE 15 MINUTES EARLY.

Thankyou for that information. I will be getting me some as soon as I go shopping again. Some time next week or later not sure when I will have the grocery money as my Meds I picked up were $133 and still have 2 I need to pick up and they will be around
$55 If I am correct. Nothing left for food then.

Thank you, you got me thinking again. I was having a tendency lately to make excuses and get away from the initial disipline of eating right. I'm learning to cook in batches and freeze small portions. And I've discoverd frozen fruit to replace ice cream. Not as good as fresh I know, but at least it doesn't go bad before I can eat it.

Most good news though, I have lost 15 pounds since this week last year. Ten more to go. Last year this week I was in the hospital for 8 days for a lung condition. So walking again is great improvement. Hard but an effective way to quit smoking too. LOL But now when I get stressed, the sugar and nicotine cravings hit at the same time. So I choose sugar because cigarettes would be a quicker death for me. That's part of the rationalization to eat more sweets. Alot of good changes but I have to keep learning and improving.

Hello Deborah;
Thank you for joining us here. I have found that buying the fresh fruit and freezing it is also a good way to get your fresh fruit in the winter and also canned Fruit.
I had my Regular Diabetes Checkup on the 8th of March and then on the 24th I ended up back in his Office with Broncitis from the black mold in my home and the dust flying around in here. So it is hard for me to get my walking in as much as I use to. When it is not raining I am out walking and am starting to feel alot better now. I hope you are doing well when you read this. When I crave something sweet I get my self some dark chocolate if I have any in the house. I am doing better now on the less sweets and am using Pickle bologna and snack crackers for my bedtime snack and the numbers show it in the morning.

Hi all, I wanted to touch base and I hope that I can locate this discussion
later when I want it. Hope everyone will have a good Easter. I saw my
prosthetis Dr. and tech and they want me to remain at the time limit and
speed set they gave me at the beginning of the year. I am doing my
40 minuets each day. Now that it is getting to be good weather out I
wish I could garden, but they feel it would be too dangerous. I will do
as they ask . My brother always plants a big garden and brings things
to my house when they are ready. Gardening is excellent exercise and
I miss it. Everyone have a great Easter!

I am glad you are improving each day. Just remember as we follow the Drs. Orders we are slowly getting improvement and then we can do more as they say we can. I also love to Garden and this year I also will not have any as they are not done with the outside of our Trailer and I don't want anything to happen to my flowers and food so am forgoing it this year. Next Year watch out as then I will have my raised Garden area and my Tomato area at the end of the Trailer. I am going to put my Raised Garden around the Cleanout pipe for the Trailer and hope nothing goes wrong with the Drains so that I can have my garden where it will get the best feeding from. LOL Might put it half way thru the yard and then not have to worry about it.
I am walking again but now wearing a face mask inside till they get my rooms done as the dust is making my breathing harder on me.

Here are my items for today so far. I'll add the numbers at the end of the day.
April 1,2010 Time: 9:01 a.m. Weight: 259.8 that is what the scale said this morning. BG level then also was 108 Took my A. M. Meds also after checking weight and BG.

Breakfast: I had 1 cup of Raisin Bran and 1/2c of 2% milk
I filled a one Liter Pop Bottle with Ice and water for my drink for the day.
Then I started Running the streets in town. LOL no morning snack.

Lunch: I had a Black Forest Ham and Cheese Subway sandwich with all of the Veggies and Honey-Mustard on top. Mind you I ate this on the Run while driving I wore some of it and didn't lose very much in my lap or all over my top .
Finished my running and got home to refill my water and put a new 2Lt Diet Pepsi under the Sink if I want a glass of pop I will use the 4 oz this month and call one at a time good for the day to see how that goes.
After Lunch @ 3:52 pm BG level was 181

Supper: I warmed up Left overs out of the Freezer. I put a serving of what ever I fix for supper in the Freezer for fast meals or if I don't want to cook for any reason so tonight it was Mac and Cheese with BBQ beef cubes.
They freeze nice in a sandwich plastic container. Not to much at a time either.
I refilled my ice and then it brought the water level back up to full again that makes 3 times refilling the water Bottle so far today. No Pop and no Crystle Lite either.
After Supper BG level @ 7:46 was 119
So am doing better with each meal. Hopefully tomorrow will be better than today.

I hope to see all of you back this month.
The Tips will be posted on Fridays only this month as I am reading all I can on Meal Planing so to make up some Meal Plans then cook and Freeze them for Future use.
