I think there should be more information out there for non diabetics. I have type 1 diabetes and i have had it since i was a kid. i am a little overweight and everytime i meet someone new and tell them about my condition they think that it was because i am overweight. I get so sick of trying to explain that i couldn't prevent this from happening.

When I told my boss about my diagnosis, his come-back was 'yeah, fat people usually are the ones who get this.' What a sweetheart.

It is not narrow mindedness as much as ignorance. Alot of people talk about things they don't know. Also alot of people listen to things that are not true. Well Wikipedia says it or little Johhny says and do not reasearch for themselves. They are called Sheeple and there are plenty of them. Just remeber that they don't mean anything by it they just are "Talking out their rear ends"

Here is a website that will help you understand type 1 and type 2 diabeties and will also let you know how to control your weight. Just follow this link http://www.endocrineweb.com/ I refer to this website a lot to get information, hope this will help you. Don't listen to those negative people they will just bring you down and you don't need that.

Good Luck and best wishes,

Hey sweety, their are alot of ignorant, narrow minded, judgemental people out there. You can try to educate them, if they want to learn and understand, but it's up to them whether or not they want to learn about your condition.

I know it is sometimes easier said than done, but try and not let people like that get the best of you and get you down, okay!?

People don't like to know about things that doesn't affect them.
The same information for diabetics applies to non diabetics, just eliminate the ownership of diabetes.
If you are a type 1 diabetic the weight issue is not a factor, but if you are a type 2 diabetic, then weight does play a part in becoming diabetic, but what's important is doing what is necessary to make living your life with diabetes easier, don't worry about what others may think or say, you and your health are what's important !

Help and educate yourself first and others second, your existence depends on you :

People that are not affected by it don't want to know about it. But when it does affect them they want to know why nobody told them about it before. There is so much talk about children getting type 2 diabetes because of obessity, every child they see affected with diabetes they will automatically think that is the problem. Don't let their ignorance get you down. You are doing the right thing in trying to educate them. Stay Happy. Roy

People make choices. A person is either educated on a subject or ignorant.
Most people are ignorant when it comes to diseases and share here say
as information. I don't try to explain it. I live my life and do what I know I
need to do for myself. I am a type2. If you know people who really want
information its out there.
