I've recently been told that all the free black coffee I've been drinking may be causing my blood sugar to rise. I tested and it doesn't affect me,thank goodness. I've also been recently told that fat,,cheese, lasagna, deep fried foods, block the glucose from going into the system for anywhere from 1 hour to 3. I've had type 1 for for 40 yrs. and never heard of such a thing. I'm slim and the Drs. have always told me,,,and my mother {she's had type 1 for 50 years that fats are pretty free. Amazing what you learn, wonder how much damage has been done.

Thank god for the pump
I can give my insulin over the time that it takes for it to digest
Like Pizza lol it take 2.5 hr for me so I program the pump to cover for the carbs over that much time that way I keep my BS inline
coffee and soda will make my Bs go up lol but not a lot
Best wishes

Fat doesn't block glucose going into your system but it will slow down the digestion of carbs, sometimes considerably. It will mean that your blood sugar can spike a lot later than you may be used to. When using insulin this can be an issue, especially if you are using a rapid acting one (humalog, novolog, apidra). What can happen is you take your normal dose but because of the delayed digestion you go low, correct that then you have the normal rise in blood sugar later and end up really high. A lot of people split doses when eating high fat foods..

Google "pizza effect" and you can get a lot of information about it.
