Hi all
I joined Diabetic Connect last summer but wasn’t sure how to use it. My husband was diagnosed last May with Diabetes II and very high level of sugar. I had been telling him to do a general check up for a long time and he just procrastinated for 2 years. So it was a shock when he was diagnosed. My first reaction was to read anything and everything I could find on the internet and join this community. Though at that time I didn’t find anything I could do here. Today I followed a link I got in the regular emails from the website about a recipe and somehow landed on this discussion forum. It seems like a lot of happy chitchat is going on. It seems like I might actively participate after all. Though did not see many caregivers so I feel a little like odd woman out.

My husband’s diabetes is pretty much in control now. His A1C has improved from 9.7 to 6.5. I am very proud of him. His father died just a week after his diagnosis so I think that was a wake up call to take care of himself.

Nice to be here with people who support each other

Welcome. I started with a A1C which was above 9 and now my last reading was 5.4. I joined this site right after being pre diagnosed which was about a year ago and have learned many things on controlling this condition. Good Luck and keep reading.

A1C of 6.5 is very good. I am down to 7.0, so my questions is … how did he get to 6.5 where I would like to be?

Glad to have you join in. Sometimes you just have to jump in, and we are glad you did. That is fantastic about your husband's drop in his A1C! You will have to share with us the ways you were able to get him to come around. I have diabetes, but I am also a caregiver for my mom who has it as well...so I am always looking for help to keep us both on track.

Welcome Dev. If you and your husband have a computer and want to track your Blood Glucose readings, the site offers a few free spreadsheets. These can be used with Excel or Open Office. You need to both be your own analysts and work at being well.

Best wishes
Father Fred

Welcome Dev, I have not been coming to this web site very long, but have learned a lot. People here are very caring, it's just like family, and of course we joke around a lot too, but have learned that help too because it can releave some of the stress that is put on us because of the diabetes. Again Welcome to DC. Roy

I'm glad you're here. I'm new too. I've never done this before but I think I am already getting hooked. You have no idea how important the support of family and friends is to someone who has been diagnosed. And I think that my being diagnosed was the best thing to happen to my entire family's health.
