I'm sitting here with my 2nd cup of coffee and no newspaper. This is the 2nd Sunday that they have failed to deliver the paper. I have contacted them and they promised they will deliver it soon, but that's what they said last week and it never came. I'm a creature of habit and I miss my paper. On the bright side, when I went out to look for the paper there were 2 robins frollicalling (sp) in the tree. In the midst of all the snow that fell yesterday. But it gives me hope that spring is coming.

Roy531 2010-03-21 08:54:54 -0500 Report

I hate it when they don't throw the paper. They have done it so much that the district manager gave me her number to call when they missed us. I think she got tired of hearing from the higher ups. Gotta have those comics first thing in the morning, need a laugh before I get to the bad stuff.

Deb-G 2010-03-21 11:02:59 -0500 Report

Ok i want to know why they cant take the extra 2-seconds to put my paper in the "newspaper slot" thats on the bottom of my mailbox…which is at the curb!…instead they throw it up the driveway…sure its in a little plastic bag…but…its on the ground!! one tiny exposed edge sucks all the water in my driveway right in…I pick up a completely wet paper neatly folded in an open plastic baggie…LOL…this is why i dont pay for the Chicago Tribune..they throw that at me and it comes in the house soaked i'll be mad…so I just read it online! lol…

donna13 2010-03-21 11:23:23 -0500 Report

They did finally deliver the paper, and actually got out of the car and put it on my front stoop. The only problem is I can't read the paper without a cup of coffee to sip on, so had to make myself a 3rd cup. Oh well, I will have lots of energy today.

I'm going to be a mom for a minute and ask why you didn't have any glucose tabs or gel with you! Especially going out in the woods for a long period of time. Or had you gotten to a point that you weren't thinking clearly and couldn't treat yourself?

I can understand why your boyfriend freaked out - the first time is scary to witness (just ask my husband!) but you need to let him know how he can help you when that happens. If there's something he (or you) can DO, it's less scary.

I didn't bring them, I'm bad. I get carried away with what I am doing and I am still not use to having to stop and make sure I have my medicine, meter, glucose tabs, etc. I'm hyper and always moving and talking before I think. I have them in my car and backpack and purse and even in my boyfriends car, I learned my lesson.

Alyssa512 2010-03-20 21:38:58 -0500 Report

Can I piss and moan for a second?? Yes it's a boyfriend problem, so beware!! Wellll, today my boyfriend (Jake) and I were running around in the woods and my blood sugar dropped low. I didn't have my meter and nothing to drink and he had no idea what was happening with me and he freaked and called my mom. She drove up there and saw me sitting there, shaking and sweating and freaked so she stuck this glucose jelly substance in my mouth. OMG! it was so embarassing and Jake thought I was going to drop into a seizure. We've been together for a year, but this has him flipping, I don't think he wants to deal with a crazy girlfriend who is going to start spazzing out of nowhere. We know of, but don't actually know any diabetics. Hmmm, think he'll leave me? and if he does, he's leaving the band, not me! LMAO should I have started this off with "Dear Diary"??

Roy531 2010-03-20 21:48:05 -0500 Report

If you are serious about him you need to educate him so he will know what to do and not go into a panic. And if he is serious about you he won't leave. But, you need to talk to him. Does he know you are diabetic, I assume he does. If you talk to him and explain things to him he can be better prepared.

Alyssa512 2010-03-20 21:56:54 -0500 Report

Hi Roy. I've started to talk to him, but he gets this bored and frusterated look on his face as if someone is trying to explain trig to him. I love him and I hope he loves me just as much, but we are honestly like big kids. We have our resposibilities as far as keeping up on bills, but we never had to worry about what foods to buy or not buy or money for meds or precautions. We eat when what we can find when we have time and do what we want. We don't drink much and don't do drugs lol we're not bad, we are just use to living in our own bubble and I think I busted his bubble with this one and I can't find the magic wand to blow another one -I know it's in this chest full of toys somewhere!

Roy531 2010-03-20 22:45:58 -0500 Report

He might lesson now after seeing this happen. Put it to him like this, If you really love me you will lesson to me cause this might happen again and you may not be able to reach anybody to come do it for you next time. Sorry to be blunt but he has to know what to do.

imsuzie2 2010-03-21 01:53:16 -0500 Report

Roy is right, Alyssa. I don't understand how you can have been with him for a year and his not know much about diabetes, as it is a part of you. If he loves you he will want what is best for you, and have to learn about what to do if you have a low. You have to remember that to have a life with another person, you need to share the good as well as the uncomfortable or inconvenient (see how I avoided the "b" word?). All good relationships are a compromise, a sharing. If the relationship is not 50-50, after awhile (and it could be years), resentment will build…Good luck sweetie. S2

Alyssa512 2010-03-22 00:04:41 -0500 Report

We share everything but only I have the diabetes. Guess he shares the burden because we are always together, but we are both trying to get use to this. I just got diagnosed this year. He does love me, this is just taking alot to get use to I guess. Thanks for advice and for the luck!

tink2707 2010-03-21 01:55:41 -0500 Report

roy is right, you need to be blunt with him. if he loves you he'll listen to what you're saying. and after seeing you in a low like that it might have scared him enough to want to know what you're going through now.

Deb-G 2010-03-21 10:19:31 -0500 Report

Alyssa…i'm a reactive hypoglycemic to the point of seizures…but one thing i've realized is…that while everyone around me knows what to do incase it happens, only I can be prepared for it…You know I have had a million times as you express of symptoms hitting and having nothing with me…I dont need my meter because the symptoms are my meter (however i know some like to test to make sure what they are feeling is a low, thats ok too)…for me it happens enough that i know…anyway, its my job to always have something with me…buy a bunch of the "liquid glucose" bottles…they're with the glucose tabs in the store but they are tiny little plastic bottles of liquid and faster and easier to swallow…stash them in every jacket pocket, every car compartment, every bag you carry…make sure they are always there…and always pop something you can eat in the car as well…cause after glucose you must eat…

Dont get me wrong..its disturbing your guy has no interest in your health…can you imagine what it would be like if you had kids? O.o This is a good test for him now lol…can he rise to the occasion of growing up and realizing life isn't just "fun" but responsibility too and part of that is YOU whom he loves and i'm sure wants to keep living :)

Alyssa512 2010-03-22 00:10:07 -0500 Report

Hi Deb. I got the tablets and have those in my backpack and car and insulin in my car. You feel like that alot? That sucks!
I didn't think of it as disturbing. I hope he cares, I just think he's freaked out or scared. I hope he does rise to occasion, I didn't know about seizures to much with diabetes. Kids will happen when we get married, but he needs to propose to me first lol.

Deb-G 2010-03-22 07:09:17 -0500 Report

Seizures dont occur until you hit below 20…and your meter wont tell you about that anyway…because low readings on your meter are really useless as a meter isn't designed to work for lows and its not a real reading…a meter is good enough to let you know you are low…just not what the true number is…

I do feel hypoglycemia alot…I dont have seizures alot…(thankfully)…so I always have something in my pockets even if I'm just running to the store…I'm more of a reactive type in that there seems to be no reason for my levels to fall, they just do, and we cant seem to regulate why…I do notice if I have less stress, and stay on a really strict eating schedule (eating same time every day etc) then it occurs less…so i'm working on all that stuff…

Try the liquid though…I find it way easier then the tablets…and quicker…and its more glucose then chewing 4 tablets…lol…My husband is very freaked out about the hypoglycemia…except he's the opposite…he hops into action…perhaps he'll do that too after he's done being freaked out LOL…

btw…I dont want ya to have kids now…lol…I meant its good to find out how someone reacts to all kinds of things BEFORE ya marry um or have a family :) Just thinking ahead for you hehe…Anyway…I wish you well and hope your boy adjusts to having to know about your diabetes and care about it…then ya know he loves ya! cause thats all included…My best wishes to you both

Alyssa, I know you are new to all of this, but you really need to educate yourself on what to eat, what you need to do in an emergency, etc. And as far as your boyfireind goes. Ok…am I like totally "shading blind" ??…meaning..when I click on the alerts that a reply was made on a thread i'm tracking…I cant tell which thread is the active one…sometimes I think it is slightly shaded…but others I'm not seeing it…am I imagining that? so then how do I tell where that (1) reply is??…I'm finding the new setup hard to find my way around…but i'm sure I will adjust once I "get it" lol

jayabee52 2010-03-21 00:01:11 -0500 Report

Deb , have you looked at the top right hand part of your profile page, there is a line of links to the right of your picture. under the activity tab it says "Me & Friends" "Only Friends" "Only Tracked Items". When you click on the "Only Tracked Items" all the items you are tracking which had a recent post will be highlighted. If there were a lot of posts in a particular discussion when you click on one of the posts it seems to erase the shading in all the other recent posts in that discussion. And the number of unread posts (in the red button in "My profile") seems to go downby the number of unread replies in the discussion. If I find there were 4 new responses and I clicked on one of those the count of new responses would go down 4, not 1. I have to remember which are the new responses and then look through the thread to find them. The new way of putting the most recent posts at the top DOES prevent a lot of scrolling, but it is slightly confusing too, since within the threads it is top down. I'm trying to get used to it, but the way it works is counterintuitive IMO.

imsuzie2 2010-03-21 01:43:35 -0500 Report

IMHO as well. Sent John a note and he said he is working on it and the EDIT reply button as well. John, sooner is better than later!!! Hugs

Roy531 2010-03-21 10:49:28 -0500 Report

Once you click on something you are tracking all the shading goes away on all of them, so when you go back to what you were tracking no more shading.

One more thing; I would like my response to be put under the correct reply…When I add my reply, it's not telling where it is going to show up…Very confusing, because it is hard to keep up with the discussion…Does anyone else have problems with this, or, like Deb has mentioned, is is just me?????

Deb-G 2010-03-21 13:37:32 -0500 Report

lol Sue…I think its all of us…sometimes my reply pops to the top and not under where I meant it to be…i'm sure I didn't click on the right place to place it in the right place! (now i'm confusing myself! lol)

I totally wish the newest replies stayed shaded in the forum thread so I could do like i did in the old version and scroll down reading all the shaded/new posts…this way there's nothing indicating whats new…I have to read everything to find anything…I'm glad someone mentioned the threads dont have shading just the discussion reply column because I was thinking it was my eyes!! lol

Tonight i'm having my parents and my hubby's Mom over for dinner…will be nice to have all the grands in one place for a nice meal :)

I have a M&P. My company decided to change our insurance and gave us a whole 2 weeks to get everything updated. Since it always takes about a month to get our cards & etc. I have to try to get enough meds to last that long. Some of which I just got filled a week ago so can't refill. Only good thing about this it looks like I get to keep my doctor. Glad of that, had her for about 10 years.

Oh, my, I do feel for you, Jeannie!! My husband saw this ad on TV on Medicare Advantage, we called and accepted it for 2 DAYS, then wanted to switch back as our daughter, who works with insurance, said we might pay less to a certain point, but in the long run it probably wasn't what we wanted!

So, TWO DAYS and I made the calls, wrote the letters trying to get REINSTATED in our former insurance program plans—-BUT it seems to take 45 DAYS to undo the damage and in the meantime we are having to "pay thru the nose" for our meds.
Wow, what an expensive learning experience——my husband apologized profusely—"Im sorry" I assurred him that it wasn't all his fault, as I had wondered about the change too, and I did make the calls and he wasn't holding my feet to fire either—the charming rep. came and told us what we wanted to hear—so—it was both of us—I laughed and told him that "he owed me tho—like a dinner outside of our kitchen—please!!" We both laughed but these insurances sure boggle my mind, you think you might save here and there, and it just doesn't seem to pan out. As I age, my mind is easier to boggle too, so I can just imagine how some must feel. My poor mom died at 98 years and this kind of stufff REALLY bogged her down and I was supposed to HELP HER!! Wow, rather like the blind leading the blind!

Good luck in your own struggles!!!!! Insurance is about like saying the IRS! haha—Might as well laugh—Pat R

Time to moan and groan, they are talking about 12 inches of snow tomorrow with blizzard conditions, I am ready for Spring, but in Oklahoma we don't have Spring we just got from winter to summer. Never know what to wear, heavy coat in the morning, short sleeve shirt in the afternoon with the AC on.

Our forecast is not as bad as yours, but they are predicting 3 - 4 in of wet, heavy snow for the week-end. We have finally gotten rid of all the snow piles, and will get more now. Oh, well, this is March.

Another thing, since you live in OK have you heard of diabetics having to give up wearing cowboy boots? My sister married an Okie and she had a devil of time getting him to wear other shoes. Also her son is a T1, and he lost a couple of toes before he agreed to wear other shoes. (he was raised in TX). He seemed to have a harder time adjusting to that than other problems.

Yesterday, around 6p a storm BLEW into Vegas, with wind gusts to 50 mph. There were some sprinkles and about 2 hrs later, it had blown out of town. That, after a nice sunny day in the low to mid 70's. Some trees were blown down, and a huge balloon (used for balloon rides on the strip) on the south end of the strip near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort was tethered but blown to pieces by the wind blowing like in a wind tunnel from the way it blew around the hotel (if that makes sense). Damage happened from those 2 hrs.
