I joined to learn more about diabetes. my grandfather(type1) and my boyfriend(type) are both diabetic. Im sure i could very easily google it but its not the same as getting real oppinons from people that experience it everyday and for a longer extent of time.

This is a great place to learn, share and ask questions. As an observer, you too have different views of what is going on. We who are wrapped up in it, sometimes can be just as insensitive to people who don't know about our disease, as people sometimes are toward us. It is always good to be aware of both sides of the fence. You will be a great support for your boyfriend, he will appreciate it so very much.

Hello, The best information would be to read, read, read, seek as many sources as you can. My son is type 1 he is almost 16 it has been such a struggle for him. He can eat anything he wants, he checks his blood 4 times a day and gives himself a shot for his food, he does not always count his carbs, that is such a bad habit for him to be in, but he is almost 16 and Mom knows nothing (he thinks). I would just read as much about this Disease as you can. Be very supportive for your boyfriend. Good Luck!

I think it is awesome that you want to understand and be involved. Just knowing that you care will help your boyfriend and grandfather a lot!

It's good to have information. However, you just need to keep a couple of basics in mind.

1. Diabetes is a very complicated and individualized disease within the type 1 and type 2 banners. What one person experiences or what works for them may be (and probably will be) completely different to the next person.
2. This is an open message board. There is some very good and very accurate information here but like any site like this, there is a lot of misguided and wrong information. I don't think any of it is intentional, the people who post it (myself included) believe 100% that it's fact. Just be aware that everything you read isn't going to always be the gospel truth.
