I am trying to do research on the newest glucometers available. I have just started this and was wondering if anyone else had any input? Thank you very much!

I use the Bayer Breeze 2 meter. It has 10 tests in a disc. I like it better than the regular meters.

i use a talking meter..i can't remember what it's called but i got it thru the diabetes care came with cookbooks and my supplies are delivered to me..i've tried one-touch ultra and accucheck compact and the talking one is the best one so far..and the screen is big, so its easier for me to keep up with it..

I like the OneTouch UltraLink that came with my Medtronic pump..sends the BG# right to the pump…a big step from urinating in a test tube and a pill and checking the color chart like we did 45 years ago…regards packrat2

Oh yes, I remember having to pee in the test tube and add the pill. I tell yournger diabetics about it and they cannot believe it! :0)

Yup, I remember those days when I was first diagnosed and had to pee in the test tube & use the pill. Technology has sure advanced since then.

It sure has Kim. I was diagnosed on Halloween in 1972 at the age of 5. The hospital had a glucometer but it was huge - my parents asked if they could get one for me and the nurse said "No…it takes a specialist to operate this. You couldn't possibly do it" LOL!!!

We made it thru that Kim!

I have a few one touch, I always resort to one-touch. I recently got one of the newest one touch that graphs for you and lets you enter food, meds, exercise, etc sorry can't think what it is called. But I can't break away from my one-touch ultra 2. My Dr. gave it to me awhile ago and I love it! You can download it on the cp and it lets you put in a little info, it also gives you a 7,14,30 day average and a before/after meal average.
Good luck!

I used to use this machine, One Touch Ultra Smart, I is a brilliant machine to use. Now that I am on the One Touch PING insulin pump with meter. The meter remote is a spin off of the One Touch Ultra Smart minus the lower buttons. It is called the One Touch Ultra. I LOVE One Touch!!! I tried Accu Check and DID NOT like it or the options.

Does your one touch ULTRA2 enable you to download results to your pc? i am trying to get a one touch ultra smart which i think is the newest one you have because of all the functions it performs in re the data. I use a Bayer Contour which has always been great, but i want to be able to download my data onto my pc and the Bayer site is soooooooooo slowwwwwwwww I dont use their online log anymore.

To me they all are alike some have more featchers then others
What do you need it to do?
Do you have ins to pay for it?
Walmart has a good one for 9.00
and the strips are a lot less then other brands and it works good too
Best wishes

I suggest you go to Diabetic
Each year they put out a magazine with all the latest
on meters, pens, anything a diabetic needs. You might also
be able to get the information at the ADA site. Good Luck.

There aren't a whole lot of them that are advancing technology, mostly the same old same old, but the Bayer USB looks like a step in the right direction.

I've been trying to get my hands on one of those new Bayer USB meters. As a family that uses Mac computers, this is so awesome that it is compatible and requires no special gyrations to get it to download on our computer.

I agree, but it seems that every manufacturer of every meter has to make some bonehead decisions. This looks like a great meter but for the fact that you can only tag readings before or after meals during the 5 seconds it's running the test. There are a couple of other minor issues with what it can do and I haven't seen how long the battery life is which is important because it's rechargeable, but the tagging just seems to make no sense whatsoever.

I don't have a Mac, but I've been researching the USB. It is not compatible with the latest Mac operating system but Bayer is supposedly "working on it".

I have one. I got it on line throw Bayer. I love mine. I just plug it in to my computer and it downloads it self. I can really keep track that way. Hope you get one. Love mine.

Is your pc windows or apple type? I understand the usb meter wont work yet with either windows 7 or apple.I would love to have one of these but only if it works with win 7 . Dont understand why all meter makers dont adopt the usb type technology.I use Bayer Contour which is a great little meter, but Bayer's online log is so slow i cant use it and do want a meter that will enable me to download test results so I can forward them to my doctor who is 600 miles away.Any other suggested meters that will do this will be appreciated.
