I just wanted to take this time to let all of you know that my husband, Phil, is doing some better. He is not in as much pain as he was…He was discharged from the hospital late yesterday evening…They ran every test imaginable, and every one came out negative…They are doing a colonoscopy in three weeks to see if anything shows up there…We are totally confused, and puzzled…We know that the pain is coming from somewhere, we've just got to find the source… Thanks to all of you for your concern, and your prayers…You are all wonderful, and cherished friends to me… I love you all ~ Sue

Hi Sue,
How is Phil doing? I hope they have discovered the source of his pain. Can we have an update? We care and want to know so that we can support you and yours.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Sal :)

That must be frightening for you both not to have some definite thing to pin the pain on. Glad Phil is getting some bit of relief.

Jem & I will continue to keep you both in our prayers.

Yes, it is hard to see a loved one suffer…I know how Phil has worried over me since I was diagnosed with diabetes…He worries all the time…He will wake me several times during the night to ask if I'm ok…And, all I can say is, "I guess I am, I really don't know, I was sleeping!" LOL!!! He is a sweetheart, and he has been through so much with the cancer…I just hope that any other tests they decide to do turn out ok…I know with all the prayers from all my wonderful friends on here, and others, he has just got to be ok… Hugs, and love to you, ~ Sue

Thank you, Hindboy and gma…This was somthing that just came up suddenly…He has been working extremely hard with the business, and pushing himself too hard, I THINK, but I can't get the man to slow down…He has been under a lot of stress, and we all know what stress can do, and he, being a cancer surviver, you are always worried that it could show up again… Love to both of you~ Sue

Hugs to you and your husband Sue. What a frightening and axious time it must be. I'm glad you have each other and all of us friends here for support. I'm also glad they haven't just filled him with pain killers and sent him home. Hopefully one of those tests will finally point in the right direction and he can get the help he needs. Keep us posted please.

Thank you Deborah…I will keep everyone posted on his progress…They tried to give him pain medication, but he refused it…He just deals with the pain…I know it is hard for him…I will worry until all tests are done, and be praying that the cancer doesn't show up again…He lost his only sister to cancer about a year ago… So, any time something new pops up, I panick! Again thank you for your love and support…Sue

I get a colonoscopy every two years because I've had several with polyps and tested positive for the colon cancer gene. Try to keep in mind that treatments have improved greatly as you already know. Where there is breath of life, there is hope.

imsuzie2 2010-02-28 20:01:26 -0600 Report

Deborah, I didn't know there was a test for the colon cancer gene…I will ask either my gastro or PCP to have it run when I see them in April. Since I have had ulcerative colitis since '82, I have a higher risk. This last October was the first time I had polyps…I get one done every year (since '96). My paternal aunt had colon cancer so back in the early 80's a genetic counselor said I had a greater risk of getting colon cancer than breast cancer, even tho I lost my mother, her mother, and later sister to breast cancer. My mom's sister and father's mother each had a lump removed…genetics can be confusing!!!!

Deborah L 2010-02-28 21:17:03 -0600 Report

I would hope your doctor already tested for that gene when he removed the polyps but yes, do ask him? Those are sometimes one of the first indicators. I had a history of IBS which made me higher risk, but genes are hard ot argue with sometimes Lots of fiber…LOL
Good luck and don't worry, Medicine has improved so much but also made us so aware we can make ourselves crazy over this stuff and forget to enjoy the blessings of our lives.

imsuzie2 2010-03-02 05:54:28 -0600 Report

I agree on that. Maybe didn't check for the gene since I have a colonoscopy yearly anyway! So glad you found us here at DC! Hugs

I had colon cancer, so I am an advocate of colonoscopies! When I was dx with this my kids were giving me a hard time. Their dad died of melanoma so they all have their moles checked regularly (at least I hope they do), so now they have to have regular colonoscoies. Not happy about that.

salmanda 2010-03-02 13:04:12 -0600 Report

Can't say I blame them about not liking the colonoscopies! The prep is horrendous, but I know it is an incredibly important test.

imsuzie2 2010-03-03 05:29:02 -0600 Report

Ask the doctor for RX MIRALAX…all but tasteless…I even mix in water, but better in flavored water, since I don't like Gatorade. Also 2 Dulcolax 2 or is it 4 hrs before starting the prep…I can look if interested. My take on it is, the best 20 min sleep I get all year, and ask the nurses to let me wake on my own…LOL

MAYS 2010-02-28 08:39:53 -0600 Report

I'm glad to hear that all of the test run thus far have come up negative, at least this eliminates some worrying via the process of elimination.
You and your family have the love, support and prayers of all of your friends here at DC, here's to hoping that the cause of the pain can be found and alleviated.

Thank you Mays…I appreciate each and everyone of my DC friends…I was just saying to Suzie, once you have had cancer, anytime something comes up, you are always worried until all tests are done, and you are given a clean bill of health…We never know when it will rear its ugly head again, there is always that worry… But, we know that our future is in God's hands, and he is in control…Again thank you for your prayes, and support! That means so much to me, and to Phil… Love to you, Sue

imsuzie2 2010-02-27 21:38:33 -0600 Report

Sue, thanks for the update. This is good news and I hope the colonoscopy is clear too. Ask the doc about Miralax for the prep…tasteless mixed with any liquid. When I use it, I also take 2 Dulcolax a few hours before starting the drinking. Might be easier to take for him. Hugs, and you have my number…S2

Thank you suzie… I will suggest that to him…I remember when I had my colonoscopy a few months ago; the procedure was a breeze, the prep really sucked..:( Since, Phil is a cancer surviver, you are always worried until all tests are done, and you are given a clean bill of health…I will be concerned about that until it is all over, and I can relax, that is, if this last test turns out ok…With all the prayers going out, I think that this test will turn out ok too… Hugs, and lots of love to you… Sue

Thank you Judy for all your prayes…I am trying to stay as stress free as possible,(that's hard to do with someone who has OCD, and obsesses over everything..LOL) and take care of myself…However, it has not been easy…My BS levels have been all over the place; I am just dealing with that as best I can, and sometimes, I forget to eat right, and forget to stay on top of my insulin regimen…But, my main concern right now is my husband…Just hoping that the cancer doesn't show up somewhere; that is always a big worry…We know that the pain is coming from somewhere, we have just got to find the source! Love to you, Sue
