An article in ( HealthDay News)7/25/2008 states certain kinds of sweeteners -such as Date sugar and dark brown sugars—may help manage type 2 diabetes and related complications. American and Brazilian researchers say.They have the potential to control diabetes linked to high blood pressure and heart disease.They found that certain sweeteners inhibit the activity of alpha-glucosidase,an enzyme that moderates blood glucose levels by controlling the passage of sugars from the small intestine.
These findings and more were published in the "Journal of Medicinal Food."
It seems we are finding more and more things WE CAN EAT every day.

I always wondered about less refined sugars and why they wouldn't be okay. I have been using Raw Sugar in some of my cooking and found that it doesn't spike my numbers at all. I don't use it a lot, and I still like my Stevia and Agave Nectar. But I made some lemonaid the other day with 1/2 xylitol and 1/2 raw ill effects for me or my mom. Then the other day I had orange juice and ZING...thru the roof.
My rule is that if a recipe calls for brown sugar in small quantites, I go ahead and use it. Perhaps it isn't so evil...Thanks for sharing.

I have never seen Date sugar. I would like to give it a try. I wonder if anyone knows where it can be found.

try the gourmet food shops if you can't find it at the supermarket or the health food store… it's marketed more as an upscale product here

ooops, there are no gourmet foods in my small town. I will have to ask a friend in another town to check for me.I really want to try it.
