Hello Everyone! This is my first time to write a discussion before but I thought it would be good to get some advice from other diabetics. I have had diabetes for 13 years and have been on the pump for 12. I love the pump but I am having trouble with the highs/lows, getting my A1c down and loosing weight. I am on novolog, and wanted to know if there are some other medications I could take that could help me out. Any advice would be great!! Thank you :)

Have you tried different insulins in your pump? It may be that Apidra or Humalog rather than Novolog might work better for you. Some people find that novolog sticks around in your body for just a little too long and takes you low when humalog and apidra do not. I tried all three in pens and liked apidra the best but the delivery system was poor so I stuck with humalog. I had problems with lows and highs when I was experimenting with novolog. If you haven't tried those, talk to your doctor and see if they can give you test vials of each. The only other medication that might be of use to a type 1 may be symlin. It slows digestion of carbs primarily so you may avoid some of the highs and lows. Other drugs either won't help a type 1 or may cause you more issues than they solve.

It's really something you should be talking to your doctor, diabetes educator and/or pump manufacturer about because they will be able to help you more
