Finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. My FBG was 178 yesterday morn and I only went above 200 twice (218 & 208). Today, my FBG was 181 and so far only went past 200 once. Haven't been past 300 since midmorn Friday. Woohoo. Nice to see my efforts aren't for not.

For me it was a bit high this morning at 109. Got back from a trip Tuesday and am getting back on track today.

When I first started taking FBS readings my doctor said he liked it or was comfortable with it at about 135. Haven't seem that number in quite awhile. I use the log and it has all been green.

231 fasting this am. I lost the battle with some cookies last night. Oh well, I gotta brush it off and get going on

jayabee52 2011-10-29 18:32:35 -0500 Report

I just got back from my son's wedding and reception recently. I am sorry to say I didn't even try all that hard to keep it under control. I woke up the next AM with 250. I don't use meds to manage my BGs so mine was up for a while. Finally came down closer to normal the next day.

We all mess up from time to time. As long as you got back on that bronc and try again.

thetraveler59 2011-10-30 03:11:42 -0500 Report

Was it just the low carb diet or are you on any medication? I'd really like to know. Those A1c numbers are fantastic. Do you exercise much? How long have you had this disease? Thanks

Does your Dr. know that the max of Metformin is 1,000mg per day? 500 twice a day. I have hope for you when you said that you will do what you know what works. Good luck

snuggles071 2011-10-30 09:41:36 -0500 Report

what i was saying is if my a1c test came back 5.8 on 500 mg metformin a day why would he up me 3 times the amount if the small amount and diet was working?didnt make since to me.

jayabee52 2011-10-30 14:45:57 -0500 Report

The only low I remember having was when I was on Met. And I am wondering if it played a part in my kidneys shutting down in 2006 also.

JSJB 2012-11-12 15:48:34 -0600 Report

I was on met 500 twice a day. I chose to go to once a day and my BS has been in normal numbers. Someday I will make a DR. appt.. I feel great but should go back to him.

JSJB 2012-11-12 15:50:31 -0600 Report

Isn't that what met is for?? So if your BS is normal and you take met one would assume that it woul lower to below normal

2011-10-27 01:01:53 -0500 Report

I'm completely jealous of you guys!! In the morning, my b/s is 205, after my exercise regime it's 185. B4 lunch, it shoots up to 235, and @ beddie bye time it's 395!! I do not snack, nor do I enjoy any of the "illegal" foods that we R not allowed 2 eat!! So tell me my fine feathered friends, what can I do to lower the damn glucose #'s? Mind U: I'm a vegan who does not consume any type of fruit. Nor do I consume any type of carbs. So tell me, what's a body to do?

Jan8 2011-10-27 07:58:02 -0500 Report

call the doc and give him/her your numbers for the last 3 days. May make a difference in your treatment. I have some days when the BG #s are high and some days they are low. Go figure! The doc told me unles they run low or high for consecutive days to call him.

What do you eat? Is it a healthy, balanced diet? Try consulting a Registered Dietician who is also a CDE as well as an endocrinologist. Between the two of them they can probably resolve your problems by using meds and lifestyle changes.
Good luck

This evening when I got up (I work nights-so day is night and night is day) I checked and my number was 120.

Carol2x 2011-09-13 16:12:12 -0500 Report

which is a good number for me especially lately with the stress of my husband having chest pains, going to the hospital and having a cardiac cath with a stent.

That's really good to hear! I pray your husband is doing well too!

The surgeon found a blockage and put a stent and told him that he just beat the Widow maker. He is at home and will be off a week from work. He is doing some walking to get going again with moving around and is looking froward to when he get get going with his exercises again.

Hi James, Haven't been on in a while…is there some reason you want daily #'s?? Just wondering…mine this a.m. was 195. Ellen :)

jayabee52 2011-09-12 23:27:25 -0500 Report

Just sharing! No reason for ME to want the numbers. (mine was 165 fasting, and 135 @ noon)

This discussion started sometime in 2009 (or maybe before) before the new website change over and the new replies went to the bottom of the page. It made for a lot of tedious scrolling down to the bottom of a page when you wanted to see who posted what, so we would start a new page. The person who posted the original discussion was no longer a regular on the boards at that time, so I took it on myself to keep the discussion going.

Sometimes the older posts come back as a "featured" discussion. That's why this came up today.

I wish I could get some of the numbers people in this thread have. This morning I was 190 fasting. Some days it is actually under 140. To me that is cause for celebration. If I get in the 90 range I have the cold sweats and shakes. Yesterday I had a bad spell with an 83 after lunch because I ate at a restaurant and calculated the carbs wrong and took too much insulin.

jayabee52 2011-08-03 21:05:42 -0500 Report

Well , friend, not everyone on this thread have fantastic numbers.

Some of us mess up, like I did yesterday and my BG number last night was 156, and my Fasting was 144 this AM. I try to control my BG numbers by what I eat, so I can't just inject a bit more insulin to bring it down. Sometimes dill pickles or dill pickle juice work to lower BG, but I don't have that in the house now. Gotta let my pancreas crank out enough insulin to bring it down on its own. Sometimes it seems to take forever.

Jimslin 2011-08-02 17:11:47 -0500 Report

I have only been testing for a week now. The doc said to test every other day. I haven't had a morning result (before breakfast) under 146. Is that bad? When should I call the doc? This morning before breakfast my number was 194 and 2 hours after breakfast my number was 193. Am I doing something wrong?

MEGriff1950 2011-09-12 15:00:56 -0500 Report

Jimslin to me it appears it is not you doing something wrong it is your doctor that said get a monitor and did nothing to educate you.

jayabee52 2011-08-03 04:58:52 -0500 Report

Have you been Dx'd with diabetes Jim? Or is Dr still working on a Dx?
Yes nothung under 146 is NOT GOOD! Diabetic complications come on more rapidly when BG numbers are 140 or above.

What is Dr having you do to try to control your BG numbers? Please have Dr provide you some sort of plan or medication to control those BG readings! You should be testing a MINIMUM of 3 times PER DAY! To learn what you need to do to control your BG numbers, you probably would need to test 6+ times per day, at least to start.

catroter53 2011-08-03 10:06:17 -0500 Report

i was testing 3 times a day , but then my second income got taken away,, so i cant afford to buy what i was buying,, i test once a day :(

jayabee52 2011-08-03 21:18:00 -0500 Report

so sorry! It is important for your future health to get those numbers down and be able to keep them down. testing a minimum of 3x/day is the best way that can be accomplished. I don't know you, so I can't suggest ways where you might be able to re figure your finances to cut out some things you may not need as much so that you can at least test 3x/day 7 days/wk. Your future health may depend on it, and wouldn't you really be in a world of hurt if you got sick enough you couldn't work and you became disabled. I pray this will never happen, but take care of your health first.

My fasting this morning was 195… We had buffet dinner last night. I know better, but had WAY too much to eat. Oh well, what's done is done.

Katsarecool 2010-07-04 09:48:52 -0500 Report

yesterday before eating but after walking two miles 140
last night one hour after eating 210
this morning before eating 130
I am pleased that testing regular is not so intimidating now. What a change 24 hours can make. LOL

My Blood sugar is 431! What the heck! I haven't eaten since dinner at about 7 and it is about 11:30 now. I had to take 11u. of insulin…I haven't taken that much of regular insulin in awhile now, thought I wouldn't have to again.
