Snow, here it comes again, or did it ever stop ?

Living in the northeast I am accustomed to it.

Children love it, adults deal with it unwillingly at times but we can't stop it, and now this winter we just can't seem to avoid it no matter where we live !

Love it, hate it or tolerate it … what's your take on snow ?

Above freezing two days in a row so far, looks like it will stay that way for the next week or so. To quote the Wicked Witch, "I'm melllllttttting" And some of my early daffodils are up about 4 inches - didn't know they were there with all the snow! My first sign of Spring!

Mine won't be blooming for awhile yet, but they're on their way! I love spring, too, though I've lived here long enough to know that March can be pretty wintry! The month of March here can be a tease…

Seriously !
If you have family or friends in areas that were hit with snow, check on them in which ever way possible that you can, help out and most importantly stay safe and stay focused, you can laugh and complain about the snow later !

I will be safe, and be warm ,do to its to cold for me for my old bones, but thats okay I will do some of my sewing so I don't have to think of the snow,

MAYS 2010-02-26 05:32:51 -0600 Report

Why complain about the weather ?
Just take it as it comes, enjoy it, snow and all !
Things can always be worse than what they are, and better than they currently are if you make them better !
So until then, enjoy the snow before it goes away !

Arizona in the Summertime
You know you are in Arizona in the summertime when :

The best parking place is determined by shade instead of distance.

Hot water now comes out of both taps.

You can make sun tea instantly.

You learn that a seat belt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.

You discover that it only takes 2 fingers to steer your car.

You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

You actually burn your hand opening the car door.

Your biggest bicycle wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out and end up lying on the pavement and cook to death?"

You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.

The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.

Farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.

The cows are giving evaporated milk.

sizzle, sizzle

Elrond 2010-02-27 23:02:55 -0600 Report

Right, people who are new to the area quickly learn to keep oven mitts in their vehicles for handling the hot steering wheels.

Elrond 2010-03-01 00:31:31 -0600 Report

Actually, it's no joke. Summer daytime temperatures here reach 120 degrees F with very little shade and rare clouds. We call this 'The Valley of the Sun'. You could probably bake a cake in a closed car left in the sun. More than one person has needed treatment for burns received from hot steering wheels.

ONeil 2010-03-01 04:50:05 -0600 Report

sorry but I did not realizes that it could get that hot , but all we gat is the cold weather, and in the summer time it is lucky that if it gets up to 90o here so that is why it is hard for me to beleave it so I am sorry for that, but I do hope you have a good day and a safe one with all that heat.

I enjoyed that post. There's a lot of truth in it too. Years ago, I parked my GTO convertible at the beach with the top down. When I came back several hours later and jumped in sans shirt, I actually was branded by the small metal decoration in the middle of the back of the bucket seat. It took weeks for that mark to go away. Never did that again!

Here in the Burlington (VT) area, we have about a foot on the ground with 4-8 more inches through tomorrow. Only had one other big storm this season and it was big (34.5 inches). Don't mind the snow except this is a wet, HEAVY snow-difficult to shovel.

Not wanting to deal with it Monday morning, I've already parked my car at the bottom of the drive - BEFORE I knew we were expecting 1/2 inch of ice this morning - which is already falling. So now I'll have to deal with a giant ice cube in the morning! (PLEEZ let Spring come soon…)

I lived in southeast Iowa for 55 years. The last 30 of those years, one of my job duties was snowplow driver for a small municipality. After a stroke forced me to retire then a heart attack reduced my resistance to cold, I relocated to Arizona. Now, the locals are complaining about the unseasonable cold. (It actually has been getting down into the 40's at night and only reaching the 60's in the daytime.) Most natives here have never seen snow. I never want to see it again.

I reread what I had written here and I think I came across as a smart a**. I really didn't mean it that way. Being a Chicagoan I am just interested in it's history. I looked up "windy city" in Wikipedia and it noted that Chicago was called that because of the wind off of Lake Michigan. I looked up "Chicago" and it noted that the phrase came about when Chicago was trying to get the World's Fair in 1890. One of the other states complained about all the bragging coming out of Chicago, and dubbed it the windy city. Now that I have put all of your to sleep, I'll quit.
